NBA star shares uplifting reason for lone stand in face of league-wide BLM protest

Jonathan Isaac is literally and literature-ly a stand-up guy.

The National Basketball Association power forward, who made national headlines when he decided against kneeling during the national anthem amidst during the league’s BLM protests in 2020, is the author of a new book called “Why I Stand.”

The athlete and Christian minister is also pro-choice when it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine, having declined to get the jab in 2021 with a cogent discourse that also received media coverage.

In the video clip embedded above, Isaac, 24, told “Fox & Friends” host Will Cain that his strong religious faith provided the motivating factor in his decision to remain standing during the Star-Spangled Banner.

“First, what happened to George Floyd was obviously tragic. What’s happening to our country and our world is obviously tragic. And I tried my best to ask myself what was the best way for me to respond in a way that could bring change the same way that people that disagreed with me in that moment decided for themselves what would bring change,” Isaac explained.

“For them, it was kneeling for the national anthem and wearing a Black Lives Matter T-shirt. For me, it wasn’t. I looked inside myself and said ‘the love of Jesus Christ and the gospel is what has changed my life.’ And I can’t see a greater message or antidote for the times that we see than that message. So I decided to stand and say that and remind people that we all fall short of God’s glory. We’re all wrong in almost every single way. We all are in need of a savior,” Isaac, who has battled injuries the past two NBA seasons, continued.

“And I believe that if we could choose to love the way God loves us which is in spite of our faults, and in spite of our mistakes, then we could see real change. If we could choose to forgive the way God forgives us, which is in spite of our faults and our differences, that we could see real change.”

Cain read a passage from the book in which Isaac anticipated that he would receive immediate harsh criticism from some of his Orlando Magic teammates (and presumably, by extension, others associated with the league) for defying “someone else’s symbolism.”

Recalling that Isaac also declined to get the COVID shot, the Fox News morning show co-host then asked the athlete what gives him “the courage…to stand symbolically, when others are requiring or asking something else of you.”

“I know what’s changed my life. And it has been the love of Jesus Christ. I’ve seen myself go from a young kid who struggled with fear, anxiety, and self-insecurity to a man that’s willing to stand up for what he believes in. And I know what has made the difference. So I believe in the message. I know that I can create change, and that’s why I’m willing to stand up for it and people who believe in it as well,” Isaac concluded.

Cain punctuated the discussion by opining that “a lot of people in the world right now [who are] looking for meaning and purpose.”

The woke NBA and its various virtue-signaling luminaries are hardly shy about cataloging America’s social-justice shortcomings while, for example, enthusiastically doing business in authoritarian China despite the latter’s dismal human rights record.

Earlier this month, news broke that the league is scheduled to play some pre-season games United Arab Emirates where homosexuality is reportedly punishable by death.
