GOP Senate candidate Kathy Barnette answers critics: ‘People feel squeezed, no one asking about my tweets’

Kathy Barnette, the insurgent America First candidate who might pull off an upset win against Trump-endorsed, presumed frontrunner Dr. Oz in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate on Tuesday, says the corporate media is trying to portray her as having “crawled from under a rock yesterday.”

In the context of general-election electability, critics on both sides of the aisle have raised questions about her work history and some controversial tweets about Islam, but Barnette contends that Democrats have their own issues to deal with in the run-up to the November balloting.

“I have not embellished on my record,” she told Shannon Bream on “Fox News Sunday” in the interview embedded here in two parts for which you can draw your own conclusions.

“The media was derelict in their duty,” she claimed about the lack of coverage until recently, noting that she has been extensively campaigning across the Keystone State for more than a year, logging as much as 1,500 miles every week, and she says she is now in a statistical tie for the lead in the GOP field.

“The media has been too obsessed” Oz and also apparent also-ran David McCormick (and their well-funded campaign war chests), both of whom Barnette has branded as globalists.

It’s pointless to “elect warm bodies with an R next to their name…it’s not working out of us,” she declared..

As alluded to above, Barnette has faced accusations of padding her resume, including from President Trump, who has tweeted that “she has many things in her past which have not been properly explained or vetted.”

Trump added, however, that she is poised to “have wonderful future” in the GOP if she explains things. He insisted, however, that celebrity surgeon and TV host Oz is the only candidate who can win in 2022 against a “lunatic Democrat.”

Barnette, an author, political commentator, and mother of four who ran for Congress unsuccessfully in 2020, told Bream that her website provides details on her military service and other aspects of her employment history.

She also insisted the Democrats have their own issues in the election, with reference to their frontrunner John Fetterman.

“People ask me all the time. Are you afraid to run against Fetterman? And my response is generally, as long as I’m not running while black,” Barnette asserted. “And many of your listeners will know that he is – not only accused, but he did – held a black man up with a shotgun. So, Democrats have their own issues.”

“The comment was an apparent reference to Pennsylvania Senate Democrat candidate John Fetterman, who as a mayor in 2013, used a gun to stop a Black jogger after hearing gunshots in his neighborhood. Police found no weapon, and anticipating it coming up during the Senate race, Fetterman addressed the incident in campaign video released last year, saying he acted quickly only to stop any potential tragedy,” Fox News recalled.

News broke later on Sunday that Fetterman suffered a stroke, but his campaign says he will fully recover.

As far as the controversial tweets are concerned, Barnette provided this background:

“Let me just say in almost all of those tweets, especially when you look at the time frame we were living in at that particular time, we had the Obama administration bringing in a lot of Syrian refugees at that time.

“I was watching the former FBI director, James Comey, testify, I believe, in front of the Senate, saying ‘we can vet until the cows come home, and we won’t know who these people are.’ And yet Obama at the time was telling the American people at the time, ‘don’t worry about it, we’re gonna vet everyone.’ And what we were watching as Americans, very unnerving, and I’m sure that people will remember that, we looking at the Pulse nightclub shooting, we were looking at people take vehicles, weaponize them, and run people down in the street. We’re looking at the San Bernardino shooting. We looking at some very unnerving things that as Americans we thought would never happen here..”

She added: “What I can say is that I love my country, and I have always loved my country, and I have always been willing not to blink in the face of difficult discussions.”

As she campaigns around the state, Barnette said she’s found that voters are concerned with “difficult” kitchen-table issues, such as inflation, the baby formula shortage, and illegal immigration, and that no one is asking her about old tweets.

“People feel squeezed and no one is asking me about my tweets,” Barnette said, adding, “Throughout this entire time, I’ve kept the main thing the main thing, and that’s Pennsylvanians.”
