‘What an insult to women!’ AP gives woke style guidance update for use of ‘pregnant people’

With the leak of an opinion draft from the Supreme Court that indicates Roe v. Wade will soon be overturned, abortion rights are filling the 24/7 news cycle, and the AP wants to make sure journalists know when it is okay to say “women” get pregnant and when “pregnant people” should be used instead.

As any press member will tell you, the Associated Press Stylebook is as critical as coffee to getting a story written and published, but as discussions surrounding the leaked draft prove, staying “woke” on a subject that obviously involves pregnant women is a like navigating a battlefield mined with gendered terms that can quickly get you canceled if used in a manner the left deems inappropriate.

So, as Vice President Kamala Harris was getting mercilessly mocked online for asking, “How dare they tell a woman what she can do and can not do with her own body?” the AP quietly tried to settle the matter, and in doing so, it appeared to walk back its previous stance on “pregnant people.”

 

“Phrasing like pregnant people or people who seek an abortion seeks to include people who have those experiences but do not identify as women, such as some transgender men and some nonbinary people,” the AP stated. “Such phrasing should be confined to stories that specifically address the experiences of people who do not identify as women.”

 

It’s a word salad, but if you pick it apart, you will note that it essentially says that journalists should humor females who want to live like a dude, but in a discussion about, say, the right to kill an unborn baby, you should totally refer to women’s rights.

Needless to say, many journalists had thoughts. And they were hardly alone with them.

“This is interesting,” said Seth Mandel. “AP trying to row the canoe back against the current.”

“LMAO at the AP trying to explain why when it’s writing about abortion, the story is about women, but when it’s writing about transgenderism, the story is about pregnant people,” tweeted Ben Shapiro.

“What an insult to women,” noted Beth Baumann.

One user asked AP reporter Kimberlee Kruesi, whose tweet of the AP update sparked the Twitter storm, how she keeps up.

“So change the language to fit the narrative for the flavor of the week?” the user asked. “How do you keep track of it all?”

It’s a fair question, especially as the AP isn’t the only one moving linguistic goalposts to adapt to “inclusive” progressive policies.

Back in August 2021, BizPac Review reported that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) took time away from the pandemic to produce an “inclusive communication” guide for healthcare providers in the name of “health equity.” In it, the CDC suggests “dehumanizing” terms such as “inmate” “prisoner” and “convict/ex-convict” should be stricken in favor of more “inclusive” terms such as “persons in pre-trial or with charge” or “persons on parole or probation.”

It’s enough to make a person lose their mind.

In fact, as American Wire News reported in April, changes to gender definitions by Merriam-Webster allegedly did just that.

In response to new, woke gender-related dictionary definitions, Jeremy David Hanson, 34, of Rossmoor, CA, was arrested for allegedly threatening to blow up the Merriam-Webster headquarters and “shoot up” the company’s offices.

Regarding the AP changes, podcaster and Townhall columnist Derek Hunter has just one more question: “Any guidance on ‘f—ing crazy leftists’ or ‘delusional nuts’?”

  4. The answer to Concubine Harris question of “How dare they” is they are only following the lead she showed in the Covid shot mandates. She, and her boss, took the “her body her choice” argument right off the table when so many women were fired for refusing to submit their bodies to be an experiment with dangerous RNA altering drugs the government wanted to force them to take. Let’s go Brandon. FJB
