SCOTUS leak bonds Republicans to fight ‘dangerous’ intimidation tactics

Republican lawmakers reacted strongly to the leak of a Supreme Court document, blasting Democrats for an act that one GOP senator called “dangerous, despicable, and damaging,” possibly putting the safety of conservative justices and their families in peril.

The unprecedented leak of the SCOTUS draft opinion, which was written by Justice Samuel Alito indicating that Roe v. Wade could be headed for history’s scrap heap, ended up in the possession of Politico which published it, setting off an uproar from a party that has already demonstrated that they are down with violence as a means to arrive at desirable political results as was evident during the summer of 2020 when mayhem erupted from coast-to-coast.

One of those who had strong words for the leaker as well as Democrats whose anti-SCOTUS rhetoric may have encouraged the person who leaked the document was Senator Ted Cruz and on Tuesday, he appeared on Fox Business to discuss the latest brazen attack on the nation’s institutions by the ascendant radical left.

The Texas Republican appeared on Tuesday’s edition of “Varney and Company” on Fox Business, where he remarked, “I was flabbergasted, it is truly stunning in over two centuries of our nation’s history, this has never happened and this is as corrosive and destructive to the Supreme Court as we’ve ever seen.”

“What it means is that there was some angry left-wing law clerk who breached the trust to his or her justice, who breached that trust to the Supreme Court. who breached the trust of the American people and took a first draft of an opinion and decided to leak into everyone.” Cruz said.

“This is the consequence of the Democrats’ rabidly partisan effort to undermine the court, to attack the court,” he continued. “This is part and parcel of Chuck Schumer standing on the steps of the court and threatening the justices saying you will reap the whirlwind, this is part and parcel of the effort by the Democrats to pack the Supreme Court, and this is part and parcel of the Democrats, partisan Democrats to try to tarnish and attack justice Clarence Thomas in particular, they are smearing him.”

He added, “And I gotta say that Democrats have a lot to answer for the destruction that this wreaks in the court because it will carry on potentially forever, limiting the ability of the justices to do their solemn constitutional responsibility, it really is an outrage.”

GOP House leaders, Kevin McCarthy, Steve Scalise and Elise Stefanik issued a statement strongly condemning the leak.

“Yesterday’s unprecedented leak is an attempt to severely damage the Supreme Court. This clearly coordinated campaign to intimidate and obstruct the Justices from upholding the Constitution must be immediately investigated by the court,” wrote McCarthy.

“House Republicans are committed to upholding the sanctity of life, and we will continue to fight to be a voice for the truly voiceless. There is nothing more special, extraordinary, and worth fighting for more than the miracle of life,” the statement reads. “We pray for the resolve of our Justices and for a decision that protects our most basic and precious right, the right to life.”

GOP Senator Lindsay Graham, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee blasted the leak and the left’s radicalism in a series of tweets.

“It is a sad day for the Supreme Court and a dangerous day for the Rule of Law,” he wrote. “The radical assault on our institutions and the Constitution itself has reached a new level with the release of a draft opinion on a major issue facing the Court.”

“Whether you are a liberal, conservative or moderate, the integrity of the Court has been compromised by this outrageous act – an affront to the Rule of Law,” he added.

“For over two hundred years, the Supreme Court has been able to deliberate and build consensus without its decisions being compromised in this manner,” Graham added. “This has been forever changed by this leak.”

“In America, the radical Left is hell-bent on reshaping institutions that have stood in the way of the outcomes they desire, he said. “They want to pack the Supreme Court to change the current conservative nature of the Court which was achieved through the democratic process.”

“They intend to abolish the Electoral College to shift power away from rural states to large, blue states,” continued the South Carolina Republican. “They would also have a federal takeover of our state election systems and undermine election integrity.”

In another tweet, Graham said, “The radical Left is now calling for the end of the Senate filibuster as a response to the draft opinion being released publicly.”

“This only compounds the problem,” he said. “Why destroy the Senate after this outrage against the Supreme Court’s deliberative process?”

“When it comes to outcomes, the radical Left will do whatever they view as necessary – institutions be damned,” he said, putting an exclamation point on the left’s jihad against America’s trusted institutions, particularly the Supreme Court.

Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, the Judiciary Committee’s ranking member threw his support behind the SCOTUS investigation of the leaker in its midst.

“Chief Justice Roberts is right 2investigate unprecedented SCOTUS leak The investigation should be done quickly &thoroughly The leak was a monumental breach of trust w/in our judicial system The independent judiciary must remain free from political intimidation & outside influence.” Grassley wrote.

Utah’s Mike Lee who also is a Senate Judiciary Committee member issued a statement calling the left’s pressure on the conservative justices “dangerous, despicable, and damaging.”

“But the reason it was leaked is some left-wing, presumably law clerk wanted to put political pressure on the five justices that presumably are in the majority right now,” Cruz said in his Fox Business appearance.. 

“They wanted to put heat and they wanted to invoke politics to try to get them to change their vote,” he said, “and by the way, if that left-wing law clerk succeeds, it will be the most grotesque politicization of the Supreme Court in the history of our nation.”

“You mentioned an FBI investigation,” he said to host Stuart Varney, “I hope there is a serious one and I hope whoever is responsible not only is fired instantly but prosecuted and serves real jail time for violating the confidences of the Supreme Court.”
