The astounding collapse of CNN’s heavily hyped new streaming service CNN+ which is folding its tent after only one month due to a complete lack of interest had many rejoicing over the epic failure of the self-proclaimed “most trusted name in news” and its ill-fated entry into the digital world.
Fox News hosts, in particular, basked in the news, reveling in the schadenfreude of CNN+ detonating while barely off the launching pad, an implosion made all the more delightful because of the fate of longtime anchor Chris Wallace who jumped ship for the competitor’s new venture.
Tucker Carlson was among those on Fox who skewered Wallace during a segment with Fox Business reporter Charles Gasparino who broke the news last month that CNN+ was dead on arrival, the chyron at the bottom of the screen read, “Nobody signed up to watch Mike Wallace’s son,” referring to Wallace’s father, legendary “60 Minutes” reporter Mike Wallace.
Gasparino discussed the lack of attractive content on CNN+.
“They got some blowhard from NYU, Scott Galloway, talking about tech, I mean the guy, I don’t understand why people would tune into this guy, and I guess, Chris Wallace, the aforementioned Chris Wallace,” he said. “ You know, I’m not going to critique his journalism abilities, I’m sure he’s very good at his job, I don’t watch him much, I didn’t watch him much when he was on our network.”
Carlson cracked up, “I’m with you, man,” as the two chuckled about Wallace.
Also piling on his former colleague was Greg Gutfeld who repeatedly took shots at Wallace throughout Thursday’s edition of “The Five,” joking that the Democratic Party bench is “thinner than Chris Wallace’s demo reel from CNN+,” one of many jabs at the former Fox News anchor.

In another dunk on Wallace’s ill-fated move, Gutfeld said, “BLM has done to black people what Chris Wallace did to CNN+, he enticed them with a promise and then ditched them on the side of the road.”
“I’m going to do this every segment so just get used to it,” he added.

CNN’s incoming CEO, who hasn’t even taken over yet, told staffers on Thursday that CNN+ was ending, according to a New York Post report, and that many employees were left “furious” and may soon be out of jobs.
“This is f–king crazy, it is nuts,” one insider told the outlet. “The big people will likely be saved, but what about everybody else, the people who do the real work?”
“Everyone is aghast and furious,” the source told the Post.
“’This literally rivals the epic disaster of Quibi,’ the insider said, referring to Jeffrey Katzenberg’s short-lived streaming platform that went out of business just seven months after it launched in April 2020,” the outlet reported.
Gloating over Wallace’s humiliation wasn’t limited to Fox News studios as even former President Donald J. Trump got in on the action with a Thursday statement on the demise of CNN+.
“Congratulations to CNN+ on their decision to immediately FOLD for a lack of ratings, or viewers in any way, shape, or form,” Trump wrote in one of the releases from his Save America PAC that he has used to get his message out after being banned by every major social media platform days after the so-called “insurrection” on January 6, 2021.
“It was like an empty desert out there despite spending hundreds of millions of dollars and the hiring of low-rated Chris Wallace, a man who tried so hard to be his father, Mike, but lacked the talent and whatever else is necessary to be a star,” he wrote, skewering Wallace. “In any event, it’s just one more piece of CNN and Fake News that we don’t have to bother with anymore!”
Twitter users had little sympathy for Wallace and his new employer.
CNN+ had a short life — if you blinked, you missed it — but the light it cast upon the world was dull, banal and pointless, like a wisp of wind that you're not even sure blew by.
By next Wednesday, nobody will remember it existed, and that's sad.😢 What will Chris Wallace do? https://t.co/6RjH0xDzXp

Somebody should do a wellness check on Chris Wallace.

I'm old enough to remember when Chris Wallace quit Fox News to be the big star of CNN+ because Tucker Carlson broke him🤣🤣🤣

Sooooo, I’m not doing New Years Eve on CNN+ with Chris Wallace?
— Kathy Griffin (@kathygriffin) April 21, 2022
Just imagine how much of a little bitch you feel like today if you were Chris Wallace. I mean, it’s much more than usual.

Despite the current humiliation, Wallace will likely have a soft landing at CNN which will find a spot for its multi-million dollar acquisition although likely not one that is nearly as prestigious as the job that he left at Fox News.
