RNC wipes its hands, votes to withdraw from ‘biased’ presidential debate commission

The Republican National Committee (RNC) announced on Thursday that it is officially withdrawing from the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD).

Ronna McDaniel, the RNC’s chairwoman, called out the debate commission as “biased” and charged that the organization has “refused to enact simple and commonsense reforms.”

“Today the RNC voted to withdraw from the biased CPD, and we are going to find newer, better debate platforms to ensure that future nominees are not forced to go through the biased CPD in order to make their case to the American people,” read a press release from McDaniel.

This should come as no surprise given that, for months, the RNC has signaled its willingness to break from the commission. In 2021. McDaniel wrote a letter that primarily outlined issues with certain practices, which had even irked then-President Donald Trump.

In a follow-up letter, McDaniel indicated that she would “prohibit future Republican nominees from participating in CPD-sponsored debates” if the CPD refused to give heed to Republican concerns.

However, this does not necessarily mean that Republican presidential nominees will be pulled from debates in the future.

“To be clear, we are not walking away from debates. We are walking away from the CPD,” McDaniel noted.

“Debates are an important part of the democratic process, and the RNC is committed to free and fair debates. The Commission on Presidential Debates is biased and has refused to enact simple and commonsense reforms to help ensure fair debates including hosting debates before voting begins and selecting moderators who have never worked for candidates on the debate stage.”

  1. “Debates are an important part of the democratic process, and the RNC is committed to free and fair debates. The Commission on Presidential Debates is biased and has refused to enact simple and commonsense reforms to help ensure fair debates including hosting debates before voting begins and selecting moderators who have never worked for candidates on the debate stage.”It’ll never happen! Tell them to pound sand!

  2. I wipe my hands of the RNC. I get begging e mails for money. The repulsive Mike pense, and that bimbo Ann coulter, I would never support them.

  3. WHERE did the RNC obtain a BACKBONE?? I still throw their crap right into the trash! I sent them back their begging for money with a note “Since YOU did NOT SUPPORT PRESIDENT TRUMP when HE NEEDED YOU, I will NOT be SUPPORTING YOU”!

    1. I put on the ones I send in, “ I don’t support RINOs, Will only donate to those I choose”. One I received from Mike Pence, wrote on the reply, “ you’re the reason we’re in this mess” . Any more I get are shredded.

  4. about time. The elections they have participated in the last few times have been a joke. Full of bias totally! Move on from this fraud election BS and get back to honest, fair, and legitimate voting!

  5. I would have done this an election or two ago. The moderators haven’t been fair for sometime, witness Chris Wallace, Kristin Welker and others. Conservatives can’t get a thought out without the moderators wanting “to move on” to something else. The conservative has to not only debate their opponent, but the moderator too, and it’s well past time for it to stop. Remember Wallace when Trump brought up Hunter Biden? We learn little from the debates, due to the constant “interference of the Moderators. They aren’t there to moderate, but to be sure the conservative doesn’t get a chance to make a point, or bring up some fact about their opponent. Totally unfair.

  6. Oh come now. You mean the Republican candidates want a fair debate? When, where did they ever get the idea that the moderator would debate the conservative and call anything he/she says as false or disinformation. The Obama/Romney debate should have been the last time the GOP used this debate commission.

  7. They should have pulled the plug 20 plus years ago. CPD neutrality became a fantasy decades ago.

The entire POTUS debate concept is a farce. The current structure bears absolutely NO resemblance to the Lincoln-Douglas debates they claim as its model. Those men took the podium for periods as long as 90 minutes, uninterrupted, to present their views.

Our nation would be far better served by programs in which the individual candidates faced a panel composed of critics and supporters. The best example for a model would resemble the old Hannity & Colmes show. It allowed the guest to showcase his ideas but also forced him to defend those ideas against a “hostile” interviewer.

The sad fact is that in our media driven world the qualifications required to win the office have essentially no bearing on the skills required to serve the office.

    1. So very true,,seems the more monies they sponge off the public is how they get nominated,,,,,FJB,,,,,,
      sympl1

  8. The problem with the RNC and Republicans is that they are always on DEFENSE, always out maneuvered by their enemies in the media and Democrats. They have the worst image and perception, because they hardly ever give a rebuttal to the daily attacks on them. They are like the elephant that dies the death of a thousand cuts. That coupled with the fact they always form a circular firing squad and squabble among themselves and almost always snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. RINO leadership by McConnell, McCarthy and all the rest-and pathetic closet Dems like Romney, Collins and Murkowski almost guarantee they will fail even if they win both houses back. The GOP has no clear message or 5 point plan to Make America Great Again.

  9. This will never work. I applaud the RNC for doing this, but the DNC will claim that the Republicans are trying to dodge debating a Democrat because “republicans are racist and there records shows it” Or some other equally asinine B.S from the mouths of liberals.
