On Monday, it was announced that former CIA Director John Brennan joined a group called “WestExec Advisors” which Politico has described as a “secretive consulting firm” that “looks like a government-in-waiting.”
“John is an exceptional public servant whose leadership has shaped the United States’ foreign policy for decades. His passion, expertise, and dedication to the mission are evident through every role in which he has served. We are thrilled John is joining the WestExec team – he will bring invaluable insights to our clients,” wrote managing partner and co-founder of WestExec Advisors, Michèle Flournoy.
Politico also notes that a large number of those at WestExec are “former top Democratic national security and foreign policy officials who raised money for the Biden campaign, have joined his transition team, or have served as unofficial advisers.”
The group also brags on their site that they are “quite literally, the road to the Situation Room, and it is the road everyone associated with WestExec Advisors has crossed many times en route to meetings of the highest national security consequences.”
Brennan had his security clearance revoked in 2018 by then-President Donald Trump, citing the “risks posed by his erratic conduct and behavior” outweighing the net positives of allowing him to keep access to classified information after the end of his government service in 2017.
In October 2020, Brennan also joined a large group of former intel officials, and signed his name on a memo accusing the Hunter Biden laptop of being Russian disinformation, despite the lack of proof. It was a take that hasn’t aged well as even the nation’s largest media outlets are being forced to recognize the legitimacy of some of the scandalous material housed in the laptop.
Social media reaction was largely negative:
This is one more anecdote why Americans have such distrust for our government, at this current moment in history. Very sad and unfortunate.
