Alleged aggression against mail carriers is perhaps the latest example of California’s further descent into dystopia.
The U.S. Postal Service has announced that it has suspended deliveries in a neighborhood in the Los Angeles County beachfront community of Santa Monica because it is allegedly too dangerous for its workers to do their jobs.
Just one person, in an early evening attack, allegedly has caused deliveries to be put on hold, which presumably runs counter to the USPS unofficial motto of “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”
The person is apparently still at large.
According to the USPS, “multiple carriers have been subjected to assaults and threats of assault from an individual who has not been located or apprehended,” CBS News reported.
The notification only applies to one block in the area, and only one incident has supposedly occurred, however, that being a resident who allegedly attacked a mail carrier with a broomstick back in January.

“According to Santa Monica Police Department’s Public Information Officer, the suspect is well-known amongst their ranks, as they’ve had several issues with him in the past – most of which are domestic,” CBS News added.
There may be more to this story, given the USPS decision, but cops claim that they’ve received only one official report of an assault, and the victim in that case declined to press charges.
The USPS has its own law enforcement arm, but the agency has reportedly not reached out to the Santa Monica PD in this context.
Locals still receive package deliveries, but they have to go to the post office to pick up their routine mail. It is as yet undetermined how long the daily delivery suspension will last.
“Not doing anything isn’t the solution,” one frustrated homeowner, perhaps speaking for many, told CBS News.

Quality of life has deteriorated owing to random and not-so-random street violence, robberies (including home invasions even in upscale enclaves), open-air drug use, rampant homelessness, and other social maladies.
Catch-and-release policies in the court system have exacerbated the situation.
Los Angeles is one of several big cities controlled by Democrats with a soft-on-crime, Soros-backed district attorney. A voter recall of Los Angeles DA George Gascon appears likely to make the November 2022 ballot.
Stringent COVID-related restrictions and high taxes (and low services) have also convinced individuals and business to relocate to states like Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and elsewhere.
According to an April 4 Mercury News article, “During the first year of the coronavirus pandemic, California’s population dropped by nearly 262,000 people to about 39.2 million, new census figures show…It was coastal California that lost the most residents, led by Los Angeles County, whose population dropped by almost 160,000 people — more than any other county in the nation.”
There are also reports of moving companies complaining that they supposedly can’t make any money in journeys to red states because hardly anyone there is booking a return to Cali.
