CNN’s Brian Stelter was caught completely off guard by a college student who turned the tables on the portly propagandist during an event featuring many of the top purveyors of disinformation in the mainstream media.
During the so-called “Disinformation and the Erosion of Democracy” conference where those most responsible for the cataclysmic loss of faith in the media gathered in Chicago to cast blame in every direction but the one that was true, CNN’s chief media correspondent was a part of a panel when he was confronted by a young man with a very relevant question along with a list of examples.
Identifying himself as Christopher Phillips, the college freshman lowered the boom on Stelter over the fake news that has been the top product of his employer, the self-proclaimed “most trusted” name in news, flummoxing the CNN host who had no answer other than to deflect.
“My question is for Mr. Stelter,” Phillips began. “You’ve all spoken extensively about Fox News being a purveyor of disinformation but CNN is right up there with them.”
“They pushed the Russian collusion hoax, they pushed the Jussie Smollett hoax, they smeared Justice Kavanaugh as a rapist, and they also smeared Nick Sandmann as a white supremacist, and yes, they dismissed the Hunter Biden laptop affair as pure Russian disinformation,” he said, hardly a complete list of CNN’s falsehoods, anonymously sourced gossip and gaslighting but any truly extensive list would likely take hours.
“With mainstream corporate journalists becoming little more than apologists and cheerleaders for the regime, is it time to finally declare that the canon of journalistic ethics is dead or no longer operative?” Phillips asked.
“All the mistakes of the mainstream media, and CNN in particular, seem to magically all go in one direction,” he added, “are we expected to believe that this is all just some sort of random coincidence or is there something else behind it?”
“Too bad, time for lunch,” Stelter replied before brushing off the student’s question as being just a product of “right-wing” media and telling Phillips that “I’ll come over and talk in more detail after this,” when he wouldn’t be captured on camera defending CNN’s lies.
“I think that you’re describing a different channel than the one that I watch, but I understand that is a popular right-wing narrative about CNN,” he said. “I think it’s important when we talk about shared reality and democracy – all these networks, all these news outlets have to defend democracy and when they screw up, admit it.”
Stelter then changed the subject to Fox News reporter Benjamin Hall who was injured in Ukraine and how CNN joined with The New York Times, the paper which is CNN’s closest competitor in churning out whoppers to get the employee of their conservative competitor out of the country, completely ducking answering Phillips’ question or defending CNN’s false reportage.
But Stelter was caught dead to rights and Twitter knew it.
Every premise in this question to @brianstelter about the disinformation CNN spouts is unquestionably true — indeed, CNN led the way in lying to the country that the Biden emails were "Russian disinformation" — but since CNN allows no dissent, he thinks he can mock it away: https://t.co/slSgD72ez5

And his pathetic response, @BrianStelter claims those facts are just a “popular right-wing narrative about CNN.”
Of course, he was more interested in running out of the panel to go get lunch.— Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) April 7, 2022
These students are amazing! I hope they want to be journalists one day.

How delicious: Thanks to brave and smart student questioners, the Atlantic's "anto-disinfo" fest is turning into a sustained critique of elite-media disinformation.
And the likes of Applebaum and Stelter appear so arrogant and dismissive.
Kudos, lads! We're cheering from home.

Stelter deflects, says its time for lunch, and awkwardly brings up the attack on Fox war correspondent Ban Hall

Stelter cannot answer. He doesn’t even try bc answering means he’d have to admit his own & most of those at the network’s own deception and/or incompetence. I think they didn’t know many facts because they chose not to look at them. The rest is pure maniulation for the Dems

I don’t think we’ll be seeing Mr Stelter at CNN for much longer if the incoming ownership stays true to their word about wanting to become a credible news outlet again.

CNN tomorrow: “We are live at the home of Christopher Phillips’ preschool teacher where reports have surfaced that he once took another kid’s fruit snacks. Next, our panel of experts discuss what action the University should take in response to these troubling revelations.”

Phillips also took to Twitter, thanking Stelter and persisting in trying to get an answer to his question, “thank you @brianstelter for taking my question and having a conversation with me afterwards, but i am STILL wondering: if CNN is truly unbiased, WHY is every mistake they make an overstep in favor of democrats and against republicans??”

The event which was sponsored by the gospel for the coastal cultural and media elite, The Atlantic was all the more ridiculous in that it was held after the acknowledgement that the contents of Hunter Biden laptop were indeed real and not the “Russian disinformation” that nearly the entire establishment media claimed that it was.
