Fox News’ Tucker Carlson asked rhetorically on Wednesday’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” why a historically conservative state like Utah keeps a liberal governor like Spencer Cox in office.
Although he is denoted as a Republican, Gov. Cox has repeatedly toed the line for activist leftist causes in his state.
Most recently in March, Cox vetoed a bill that banned biological males from competing in women’s sports, posting, “We care deeply about Utah’s female athletes and our LGBTQ+ community. To those hurting tonight: It’s going to be OK. We’re going to help you get through this. Please reach out if you need help.”

Mere days after vowing to quash the bill, the Utah state legislature overrode his veto with a decisive 56 to 18 vote in the House and a 21 to 8 concurrence in the Senate. The whole affair took only 30 minutes, National Review reported.
With the highest church attendance in the country and a very low crime rate, Carlson opined that perhaps everyday Utahans in the deeply red state have been seduced by a so-called “liberal Republican” in Cox. He compared Utah to its neighbor, California.
“So, Utah is definitely not California, and yet some of its most prominent politicians would very much like to change that,” he said. “If you don’t believe it, watch them talk sometime. They sound like they’re running for city council in Santa Monica.”
He offered that Florida’s Ron DeSantis is America’s “most conservative” governor, but that he didn’t achieve that distinction without fighting for the title.
“So, Ron DeSantis has to earn every vote and he does that by representing his constituents. It tells you a lot. Meanwhile, bright red Utah is now led by a cut-rate Gavin Newsom imitator called Spencer Cox,” he said.
He continued, “Spencer Cox is a former telecom executive who always seems like he’s auditioning for the title of America’s guiltiest white guy.”
In support of that, Carlson played a cringe-worthy clip of the governor interacting with young students in a virtual town hall, a copy of which was posted to Twitter on Tuesday.
Utah is one of the reddest states in America.

“What a creepy guy,” Carlson remarked. “Spencer Cox identifies as a male, at least to some limited extent. Cox could’ve cleared up that mystery a lot more quickly simply by declaring, ‘I’m a man.’ Instead, he went full hostage video.”
Carlson concluded, “What exactly is the market for superfluous pronouns in Utah?” he asked. “Pretty limited. You would think most people in Utah don’t need be told, yet somehow Spencer Cox is their governor.”
