Over the course of his long career as a Beltway politician, President Joe Biden has built a reputation for being a human gaffe machine and on Saturday, he did it again, flubbing his delivery at during a ceremony for the U.S. Navy’s new nuclear submarine.
The president and wife Dr. Jill Biden were at the Port of Wilmington for formal commissioning of the USS Delaware, a fast attack nuclear vessel and while the commander in chief’s speech was a brief one, it was yet another public relations debacle when he slipped up and suggested that Michelle Obama had previously been the vice president.
In terms of verbal flubs from the often befuddled president it wasn’t quite on the level of calling for a regime change in Russia as he did last week in a speech before NATO allies in Poland which prompted a mad dash to do damage control, but it was bad enough to provide additional fodder to those who have suggested that he isn’t mentally capable of doing the job.
Biden’s slip of the tongue came as he was praising his wife, “Jill has watched over the progress of the USS Delaware for years,” he said.
“The daughter of a Navy signalman during World War Two, the mother of a member of the Delaware National Guard, the grandmother of children who experienced having their father deployed away from home for a year at a time. She always holds our military and their families in her heart, and that is not hyperbole, that’s real,” added Biden.
He continued, “And I’m deeply proud of the work she is doing as First Lady with Joining Forces initiative she started with Michelle Obama when she was vice president and now carries on.”

The misfire is all the more embarrassing because it was he himself who was the vice president during the Obama years and it sent “vice president” trending on Twitter as well as prompted a correction in the official transcript of the speech that was posted by the White House.

Perhaps worse than his misidentification of Mrs. Obama’s job title was video from the event that appears to show Biden falling asleep while standing up, a bad message to America’s adversaries at a time when World War III could erupt at any moment. It’s not entirely clear that the president nodded off, but it sure looked that way.

“This is one hell of a fighting machine. To our adversaries, let me just say this: Don’t mess with the USS Delaware,” said Delaware Democrat Sen. Tom Carper at the ceremony as he described the awesome fighting machine, unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the wartime president.
Vladimir Putin must be shaking in his boots.
While there is no way of telling whether Biden actually drifted off into a moment of peaceful slumber, the optics which hardly serve to present an image of strong American leadership come at a terrible time.
“Biden’s evidently declining memory and increasingly confused state of mind is a growing concern for our Allies across the Atlantic and across the world, esp. at a time of great crisis in Europe and mounting threats from our adversaries. This is increasingly a presidency in chaos,” wrote British foreign policy analyst Nile Gardner, the UK Telegraph contributor who once served as an aide to Margaret Thatcher.

As could be expected, the Twitter response to Biden was savage.
The slurring invalid just referred to Michelle Obama as the Vice President.
Time for the rubber room.

Joe Biden literally thinks Michelle Obama was the Vice President. How much longer can we survive with this brain dead imbecile occupying the White House?!

The USS Delaware’s original commissioning was to have taken place in April 2020 when President Donald J. Trump would have done the honors but it was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.
The sub which has a crew of 136 sailors is longer than a football field and can go three decades without having to refuel due to its onboard nuclear reactor, it carries torpedoes and can launch Tomahawk cruise missiles with can hit targets thousands of miles away with pinpoint accuracy.
