The walls were once again closing in on Donald J. Trump until they weren’t and now the latest in a long line of bombshells that the jig was finally up for the former president has turned out to be just another false alarm. Investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald beautifully mocked those who took the bait in an epic Twitter thread.

Much to the disappointment of leftist Democrats and establishment RINOs to whom taking down Trump has become an integral part of their lives, the “7-hour gap” in White House phone logs on January 6, 2021, which was breathlessly described by none other than Watergate reporter Bob Woodward as the “clearest evidence yet of Donald J. Trump’s criminal intent on Jan 6” has now been dismissed as more of the same fake news.

Woodward’s Washington Post report that the J6 committee was investigating the alleged absence of official log call activity from 11:17 a.m. to 6:54 p.m. on that fateful day and whether Trump had been using a burner phone during the so-called “insurrection” may have given him a flashback to his glory days that led to the takedown of Richard M. Nixon nearly five decades ago.

Writing of a “possible coverup” that may have had the 79-year-old thinking he had tapped into the fountain of youth but alas, it’s been a long time since the young reporter was played on the big screen by a dashing Robert Redford in his prime and in a major bit of irony, it was Trump-hating CNN that yanked the rug out from under the establishment’s favorite scribe, reporting that there was a “less mysterious explanation” for the gap.

The “six pages of White House switchboard logs for January 6, 2021, are complete based on an official review of White House records,” according to CNN, citing anonymous sources and that “the January 6 log reflects Trump’s typical phone habits. He mainly placed calls through the switchboard when he was in the residence but rarely used it when he was in the Oval Office.”

Greenwald took to Twitter where the Pulitzer Prize winner roasted the hysterics – including Woodard – on a proverbial spit in a scorching thread, brutally mocking those breathlessly hyping the “cover up” that wasn’t.

“The NEW WATERGATE!! — there’s a 7-hour gap in Trump’s WH phone records on January 6 — trended for days and was declared by liberals outlets from CNN to Slate to be the worst crime yet. It was ‘broken’ by CBS and the WashPost,” he wrote. “You’ll be shocked to know it was a total hoax.”

“Bob Woodward spent 8 minutes hyping it on CNN,” Greenwald wrote, throwing major shade at the aged reporter. “Slate called it ‘THE CLEAREST EVIDENCE YET OF TRUMP’S CRIMINAL INTENT.’ Every blue-check liberal journalist account you’d expect hyped it for days. Was on the cover of the Post, on top of Twitter for days, with millions believing it.”

“All the same Twitter-verified disinformation accounts that always push the DNC/media’s fabrications did it here. It’s impossible to gather them all in one sitting. Here are just a few examples,” Greenwald wrote, accompanied by a collection of prominent blue checks that were compiled by Twitter user Jewish Patriot including disgraced ex-CBS anchor Dan Rather, The Atlantic’s Molly Jong-Fast, CNN chief congressional correspondent Manu Raju and Vox influencer Aaron Rupar.

He also tweeted out a link to an Intercept story that he wrote in 2019 exposing the ten worst “media failures” on the Trump-Russia hoax, the year before he left the outlet that he co-founded in disgust over its censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story.

“How many times does this have to happen — liberal corporate outlets push viral stories that are complete fabrications always in favor of Dems — before people see that the real disinformation agents, the worst ones, are those in US corporate media?” Greenwald wrote.

Greenwald then jabbed race-obsessed crank Elie Mystal, a frequent guest on MSNBC where he spews nutty conspiracy theories, mostly with a kooky racial angle, and who helped to promote the now-debunked “7-hour gap” hoax.

“Look at how viral this tweet went about a complete hoax, pushed by @TheNation’s @ElieNYC. These are the media’s congenital liars and disinformation agents and – after the Hunter Biden laptop fraud – I don’t know how more proof is needed to see this,” he tweeted.

Mystal responded to Greenwald with insults and yet another conspiracy theory.

It’s highly unlikely that Woodward or any of the other blue checks will walk back their hoax-mongering over Trump’s ‘missing” calls, they will just move on to the next piece of fake news that they can use to sucker their gullible followers into believing that his political demise is imminent despite years of scams that haven’t once panned out.
