NFL will require teams to hire women offensive coaches in ramped-up woke crusade

The National Football League has officially moved to force teams to add minority assistants to offensive coaching staffs, an announcement made on Monday as owners gathered in Florida for the league’s annual meeting.

In revising its Rooney Rule which was created to encourage the hiring of minorities, the NFL expanded the definition to include women in more of the same virtue signaling that has become the league’s trademark in recent years under the leadership of Commissioner Roger Goodell who has been successful in diluting the brand which was long associated with American patriotism into one of the nation’s most preeminent megaphones for the “woke” revolution.

All 32 teams will be required to add “a female or a member of an ethnic or racial minority,” to coaching staffs beginning with the upcoming 2022 season, a development that followed yet another year of frustration over the lack of filling open head coaching positions with black candidates; only two minorities were hired this offseason during the annual churning, frustrating Goodell who said the NFL “fell short” of promoting diversity.

“… We’re not having the success we want with head coaches,” Goodell said in an interview last month at SoFi Stadium, the site of the Super Bowl. “How do we evolve that rule, or do we have to have a new rule? Do we need to find some other way of being able to achieve that outcome? I think we’re not going to rest until we find that, until we get those outcomes that are mandatory for us to move forward and have an inclusive league.”

Racial pot-stirrer in chief  Joe Biden also bemoaned the lack of black head coaches in an interview that aired prior to Super Bowl LVI.

“Think about it: The whole idea that a league that is made up of so many athletes of color, as well as so diverse, that there’s not enough African American qualified coaches to manage these NFL teams — it just seems like a standard that they’d want to live up to,” the POTUS said. “It’s not a requirement of law, but it’s a requirement I think of just some generic decency.”

The adjustment comes after former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores who is black sued the NFL and three teams, alleging that he was the victim of racial discrimination after he was fired by the team which likely undermined his efforts to get another head coaching spot. He was eventually hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers as a member of Mike Tomlin’s staff.

According to the league’s announcement on the tweaking of the Rooney Rule, “Clubs will receive reimbursement from a league-wide fund towards the coach’s salary for up to 2 years.”

“It’s a recognition that at the moment, when you look at stepping stones for a head coach, they are the coordinator positions,” Steelers owner and NFL Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee chairman Art Rooney II said, according to ESPN. “We clearly have a trend where coaches are coming from the offensive side of the ball in recent years, and we clearly do not have as many minorities in the offensive coordinator [job].”

The league also announced the formation of a new committee that will review its diversity hiring practices.

“Today, the National Football League announced the creation of the NFL Diversity Advisory Committee, following its pledge last month to retain outside experts to review the league’s diversity policies and practices,” according to a news release. “The six-member committee will lend its expert, external perspective on industry best practices and will evaluate league and club diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategies and initiatives, including all hiring processes, policies and procedures, with a primary focus on senior-level coach and front office personnel positions.”

The committee will provide “comprehensive recommendations” to the NFL upon completion of the evaluation.

Not everyone cheered the news.

Over the last several years under the stewardship of Goodell, the NFL alienated millions of loyal fans by allowing supporters of America-hating militant ex-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to disrespect the flag with protests during the national anthem and in 2020 following the unfortunate demise of career-criminal George Floyd who was killed during an arrest, took up the cause of the Black Lives Matter movement at a time when cities were ransacked and burned during violent riots.

There is no end in sight to the league’s crusade to promote leftist politics either.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport indicated that forcing teams to hire minorities won’t be the only move, tweeting that a “push for diverse ownership” is coming with the focus being on exerting pressure to put teams under minority control, specifically the Denver Broncos, a franchise that is currently up for sale.

Gone are the days when the NFL served as a unifying experience for all Americans regardless of race, color or creed now that social engineering has become more important than the games.
