Anonymous is claiming that it has hacked Russia’s Central Bank and is now threatening to dump 35,000 documents that include “secret agreements” in the next 48 hours, potentially sending the Russian economy even further into a death spiral.

The hacking collective has been attacking Russia since President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine and started slaughtering people.

The announcement was made Wednesday night via one of the group’s Twitter accounts. Details are very sparse concerning the specifics.

“JUST IN: The #Anonymous collective has hacked the Central Bank of Russia. More than 35.000 files will be released within 48 hours with secret agreements. #OpRussia,” Anonymous tweeted.

Elvira Nabiullina, who is the head of the Russian Central Bank, was rumored to be in jeopardy of being removed from her position. However, Putin had nominated her for another term this week which indicates she is secure in her role. Other whispers surfaced that Nabiullina would resign in protest of the war.

She was photographed at a meeting in the Kremlin looking despondent, according to the Daily Mail. She posted a video admitting the Russian economy was in an “extreme” situation and then commented, “We all very much would have liked this not to have happened.”

A number of oligarchs have spoken out against the invasion. Many have fled the country as has Anatoly Chubais, who was the architect of Russia’s post-Soviet economic reforms and was President Vladimir Putin’s climate envoy. He reportedly resigned in protest of the war before fleeing.

The hacking collective is responsible for a number of attacks on Russian state-controlled media and government websites where Russian programming was swapped out for videos of the bloodshed in Ukraine and anti-war statements. Other targets include a Russian nuclear energy company, television stations, various websites, and printers.

The hacktivists have also attacked Russia’s media regulator Roskomnadzor, Russian intelligence, and the FSB. They leaked thousands of classified documents exposing Putin’s war plans concerning Ukraine.

Anonymous further claims to have intercepted Russian military radio to make it broadcast the troll face meme.

Earlier this week, Anonymous warned companies that continue to do business in Russia that they could be subjected to cyberattacks. The group told Western companies Wednesday via Twitter they had 48 hours to “pull out” of Russia or become a target.

On Thursday, Anonymous proclaimed that its #OpRussia cyber campaign was “launching unprecedented attacks” on Russian government websites and would double its efforts.

“Press Release: We call on all companies that continue to operate in Russia by paying taxes to the budget of the Kremlin’s criminal regime: Pull out of Russia!” the tweet warned. “We give you 48 hours to reflect and withdraw from Russia or else you will be under our target! #Anonymous #OpRussia.”

Owners of small Russian businesses told the BBC, “This is a completely new kind of crisis which makes us all feel lost and bewildered. Not just in business but in our own lives. The loss of income, having to give up a whole way of life, reduced connections. There are a lot of things we have already lost and haven’t yet fully understood.”

On March 15, Anonymous took down a number of Russian state websites, including that of Russia’s security and intelligence service (FSB).

Using the military term “Tango down” the group announced they had hacked into the websites of Moscow.ru, the Analytical Center for the Government of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, and the FSB.

According to The Independent, Anonymous has claimed responsibility for 2,500 attacks on “Russian & Belarusian gov’t, state media outlets, banks, hospitals, airports [and] companies.”
