Robert De Niro, one of Hollywood’s foremost Trump haters, allegedly launched a preemptive legal strike against a former employee.
In October 2019, former De Niro production company executive Graham Chase Robinson sued the actor for alleged gender bias but the Academy Award-winning star of “Raging Bull” (a biopic about boxer Jake LaMotta) as well as lead or supporting roles in other great and not-so-great movies, allegedly tried to beat her to the punch.
“In new court documents, obtained by Fox News Digital, Robinson included text messages allegedly sent between other employees of Canal Productions, Inc. Robinson’s team alleges that once De Niro found out about Robinson’s impending gender discrimination lawsuit, the actor moved quickly to file his own,” Fox News reported.
De Niro, 78, had previously sued Robinson for $6 million, alleged that she misused the company credit card and other improprieties such as purportedly goofing off while on the clock in binge-watching the TV sitcom “Friends.”
The movie tough guy has an estimated net worth of $500 million. In late 2021, De Niro’s three-year divorce battle with his estranged wife finally came to an end with a New York appeals court ruling that his spouse was not entitled to half of his vast earnings pursuant to a prenuptial agreement. His ex is set to receive $1 million in annual alimony plus other perks, however.
In her lawsuit that seeks $12 million for various forms of money damages, Robinson claimed that De Niro allegedly shortchanged her on pay and subjected her to derogatory and sexist comments. In addition, he allegedly forced her to do menial tasks. De Niro also stands accused of “fostering an abusive working environment,” according to Variety.

Now, Robinson alleges she uncovered text messages between De Niro’s employees that allegedly prove De Niro’s lawsuit was filed to “humiliate” her. In one alleged text exchange, a long-time employee of De Niro, claimed that Robinson “was threatening to sue bob so they wanted to ruin her first.”
The employee also claimed the number De Niro sued Robinson for was “just a random number . . . [t]o humiliate her.” “It’s not actually like they plan to go to court,” the employee allegedly added.
The alleged text messages also claim that De Niro’s lawyer Tom Harvey had “literally no evidence” against Robinson at the time of the court filing.
Representatives for De Niro did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
Robinson’s lawyer underscored in the context of employment, retaliation against employees who bring forth workplace discrimination complaints is illegal.
These allegations are just that and are pending in court. It remains to be seen how this controversy will pan out depending upon the legal procedures, the evidence, and other factors.

That aside, and in general, progressive entertainment celebrities are hardly shy about lecturing America, especially in so-called flyover country, about shortcomings or engaging in all sorts of virtue signaling.
Behind-the-scenes behavior of all kinds in the woke but simultaneously cutthroat industry is often vastly different than the public image-making.
As Tommy Wheeler, a fictional movie actor character in the Showtime series drama “Ray Donovan” claimed in one episode: “Everybody thinks this business is a bunch of radical liberals, but you f— with the profit margin, they will hang you from a tree like anywhere else.”
