A heartfelt acceptance speech by Biden-supporting actor Michael Keaton omitted an element that could actually effect change.
On Sunday evening, Keaton was honored for his Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards in his role as a doctor on the Hulu miniseries “Dopesick,” which dramatizes the devastating effect of opioid addiction on American families.
The show also focuses on Purdue Pharma, the notorious pharmaceutical company that developed and promoted OxyContin.
Keaton tearfully dedicated the award to his own nephew who reportedly died of a fentanyl overdose.
At the end of his brief, extemporaneous remarks while breaking down in tears, Keaton made this dedication:
“Given the subject matter, this is for my nephew, Michael, and my sister, Pam. I lost Michael, my nephew Michael, to drugs, and it hurts. This is for my sister Pam; thanks.”
Parenthetically, among other factors, given the injection of left-wing politics and virtue signaling into these celebrity-promoting ceremonies, viewership has trended downward over the past few years.
Keaton did not mention the Biden administration’s open-borders policies that, among other things, allow drugs like fentanyl to illegally pour into America.
Keaton admitted that awards shows are typically “self-serving” and “narcissistic,” but added that “I’m so blessed to do what I do, and so fortunate…I have a job where I can be part of a production like ‘Dopesick’…that actually can spawn thought, conversation, actual change.”
He also lamented the “massive inequity” in the world, right on cue. “In ‘Dopesick,’ when you talk about addiction, the way to heal the problem is to accept that you have a problem. Not our country — the entire world.”

The actor, 70, also seemed to slam Fox News host Laura Ingraham for in the past recommending that NBA superstar and would-be social activist LeBron James shut up and dribble (which was a callback to her book about the liberal entertainment industry called Shut Up and Sing).
“‘Shut up and dribble. Shut up and act.’ The acting, I’ll quit. The shutting up, not so much,” Keaton declared, drawing applause from the progressive personages in the room. “I am blessed to be able to do something that might improve someone’s life.”
“I will tell you, we have a fellow actor in Zelenskyy who deserves some credit tonight for fighting the fight,” he also noted.
In a form of life imitating art perhaps, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is receiving widespread international praise for his leadership during the Russian invasion of his country, was a former comedian who played the role of Ukraine’s president on a popular TV show for four years.
In a more lighthearted moment, Keaton admitted taking a bathroom break when actress Salma Hayek announced his name as the winner. “Are you kidding me? I have stage fright,” Hayek joked during the awkward delay before Keaton took the stage.
During the 2020 election cycle, while underscoring his Pittsburgh-area roots and reminding viewers of his past movie roles as “friggin’ Batman,” the anti-Trump actor endorsed “authentic and truth-telling Joe from Scranton” for the presidency.
In August 2021, The Hollywood Reporter noted: “When Barack Obama was a senator running for president, Keaton introduced him at a Montana event, and he campaigned for Joe Biden last year in Pennsylvania. He tries to be judicious about how and when he wades into politics. ‘I learned a long time ago, you do more damage because you’re famous,’ Keaton says.”
It appears he is just judicious about what side he chooses to speak out about.
