Mixed martial artist Colby Covington unleashed a metaphorical left-right combination during a post-bout presser at UFC 272 on Saturday night. In so doing, he left no doubt who he’s supporting in the 2024 presidential election.

“Mr. 45, President Trump, greatest living American and greatest president in history, man. The things he did for this country. All you liberals out there who say he didn’t, look at inflation. Look at our open borders. Our f—–g country is going to s–t right now without him. So, we need him back in 2024. Trump 2024, and you know he’s gonna come back and Make America Great Again,” Covington, 34, declared about the ex-POTUS.

The fighter was responding to a question from a reporter who asked what his next conversation with Donald Trump will sound like. “It’s gonna be a great conversation,” Covington, who had met with UFC fan Trump at the White House a couple of years ago, said as a preface to the above remarks.

Covington was at the podium after defeating former friend and now bitter enemy Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision in what was described as an unusual non-title main event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The UFC is perhaps the only sports league that hasn’t gone woke.

Masvidal is also a Trump supporter, having campaigned with the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., in Florida during the 2020 election cycle. UFC President Dana White is a longtime, good friend of Trump, too. Last April, White told Fox News host Sean Hannity that UFC fans don’t want to hear about politics.

“We don’t muzzle anybody, but we keep politics out of the sport,” he added.

In September 2020, Trump placed a congratulatory phone call to Covington after he defeated Tyron Woodley in a UFC fight.

In the run-up to Saturday’s grudge match, however, Covington and Masvidal, who were formerly the best of friends before their intense falling out and neither of whom mince words, accused each other of what more or less amounts to being fake Trump backers.

“Ask him any question about Trump policy, or anything that Trump changed or didn’t change, and see what the f— he tells you,” Masvidal told Business Insider among other things. “He can’t tell you s–t,”

“He says he was going to the White House. How many times did he go to the White House? What did he do for Donald Trump? Donald Trump doesn’t give a s–t about him,” Covington responded, in part. “Covington then said Masvidal is a communist in Republican clothing.” the news outlet noted.

“The two men cannot stand each other now. Covington believes Masvidal got jealous of his success and stabbed him in the back. Masvidal says Covington is phony and stiffed Masvidal’s coach, Paulino Hernandez, on pay,” ESPN claimed.

Covington did mention out-of-control inflation and the open borders as just two of the disastrous Biden administration policies that provide a sharp contrast to the prosperity and security that prevailed under President Trump.

With a 17-3 record, Covington says he hopes to return to the Octagon in July against preferred opponent Dustin Poirier, one of his former training partners, with whom he is also apparently feuding.
