Jack Nicklaus says he was delighted to support his golfing buddy Donald Trump for reelection upon being asked to do so by VP Mike Pence because the POTUS is doing a great job and implementing stellar policies for the country. Providing some context for the six-paragraph tweet issued on October 28 that urged undecided voters to cast their ballot for the president, the golf legend and Florida resident acknowledged, however, that it would “cause me some grief” from those who aren’t Trump fans.

The Golden Bear, as he is nicknamed, nonetheless characterized the feedback to the presidential endorsement that he and wife Barbara have received as overwhelmingly positive, however. “Of course, they’re probably people that are more interested in Trump. I don’t know anybody interested in Biden,” he quipped in a Palm Beach Post interview.

In his tweet embedded below, Nicklaus, 80, described the presidential race as far more important than just a mere personality contest — “it’s about patriotism, policies and the people they impact.” He went on to warn the electorate that “if we want to continue to have the opportunity to pursue the American Dream, and not evolve into a socialist America and have the government run your life, then I strongly recommend you consider Donald J. Trump for another 4 years.”

Trump has “delivered on his promises,” Nicklaus asserted.

On Twitter, President Trump thank Nicklaus for the ringing endorsement, describing it as a great honor.

Similarly, Nicklaus told the news outlet that “I’m very bullish on America and the American dream, but I just think the other side is going to get taken over in socialism. I don’t think we need socialism in this country, it’s never worked anyplace else in the world and we don’t need that here.”

Reaffirming what he wrote in the statement, Nicklaus added that he has chided President Trump in person while golfing and over the phone (often functioning in those conversations as a “neutral sounding board”) for some of his abrasive tweets. Trump apparently conceded to Nicklaus that he sometimes “can’t help himself” in expressing an unfiltered, unpresidential thought over social media.

“But that’s him. That’s what he is. He’s not a phony. He is what he is. He doesn’t hide what he is. Has he made some mistakes in life? Sure, everybody makes some mistakes in life. Do I think his plusses outweigh the negatives? Absolutely,” Nicklaus declared.

In March, he tested positive for COVID and bounced back from the infection after two days (his wife was asymptomatic). On that polarized subject, Nicklaus — who holds the PGA all-time record for 18 major wins, plus 73 PGA tour wins, over an illustrious professional golf career that notched 117 tournament victories — insisted that “I think [Trump has] done the best he can with the people he’s had” in response to the pandemic.

Publicly endorsing any Republican in the woke entertainment space is usually a career killer, but Trump seems to be racking up some backing in the sports industry (although given the enormous peer pressure from the left in team locker rooms and on social media, it is far less controversial to do that for a celeb who is already retired.)

An avid sports fan himself and a former owner of the New Jersey Generals in the defunct United States Football League, Trump has also won the endorsement, among others, of Green Bay Packers Super Bowl champion Brett Favre, recently retired NFL quarterback/reality star Jay Cutler, and former Florida State University football coach and COVID survivor Bobby Bowden.

Beloved retired NHL star Bobby Orr of the Boston Bruins also endorsed Trump in an ad that ran in the influential New Hampshire Union Leader that serves an important battleground state.

Very much active UFC star Jorge Masvidal is also supporting Trump.
