‘That’s a slanderous lie’: Tucker defends views, warns war could get much worse if ‘moral outrage’ rules

Fox News host Tucker Carlson warned Monday about what lengths the United States is willing to go in Ukraine on behalf of “moral outrage,” citing the real possibility we may “see many Americans die.”

Contrary to accusations that have been tossed about, “Tucker Carlson Tonight” began with an unequivocal denouncement by Carlson of the actions that Russian President Vladimir Putin has taken. “No sane American approves of what Russia has done in Ukraine. We certainly don’t and we don’t know anyone who does.”

This reality, Carlson pointed out, hasn’t stopped Democrats from not only accusing their opponents of supporting the invasion but of being responsible for it as well.

“So, Joe Biden and his staff so mismanaged the world that Vladimir Putin invades Ukraine after Biden told us for months he could prevent that from happening, and yet all of it is your fault. So, that’s a slanderous lie,” the Fox News host said.

The country can agree that the invasion is bad for everyone involved, but where the disagreement lies, Carlson suggested, is in answering the question, “What do we do next?”

Carlson brokered for measured clarity as he referenced a piece entitled, “Pausing at the Precipice” by writer Tanner Greer. Greer shared Carlson’s sentiment that Americans are outraged over Putin’s actions, but emphasized, “Moral outrage is not a foreign policy.”

“A righteous reaction may be a dangerous one…” Greer writes in part. “In the field of power politics, it is outcomes, not intentions, that matter most. Failure to slow down and examine the assumptions and motivations behind our choices may lead to decisions that feel right in the moment, but fail to safeguard our interests, secure our values, or reduce the human toll of war in the long run.”

Carlson stated that another way to phrase that is, “Our leaders could easily turn this tragic and volatile moment into a historic disaster.” He then added, “this war could get much worse than it already is. We could see many Americans die.”

Our leadership says one thing and does another, Carlson explained, using vaccine mandates as an example, highlighting Biden’s stated opposition leading up to his executive order. Now, Biden says he will not commit American troops to Ukraine, “So is he telling the truth?”

Carlson reminded viewers that even if Biden is sincere with his intentions, no one can predict the future, and there are many in Washington pushing to escalate with demands for no-fly zones. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) tried to suggest this wouldn’t involve engaging Russian troops.

A no-fly zone entails shooting down Russian planes that enter that space and destroying radar installations which, “by definition,” Carlson said, would “entail engaging Russian troops.”

“If Vladimir Putin is even half as evil and crazy as they tell us he is,” Carlson warned, “and he may be, that could easily spiral into nuclear conflict.”

Carlson went on to discuss the recklessness of Democrats, corporate media, and their allies pushing for American involvement that would escalate into a hot war while simultaneously attempting to score political points. He then went on to point out further dangers to American liberties as calls swirl to shut down anything deemed “Russian propaganda.”

This brought Carlson to conclude that these demands to protect democracy in Ukraine cannot mean the subversion of democracy in America.

“In a democracy, citizens who rule have an absolute right to have any opinion they want. Period,” he emphasized.

“That freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, is the central freedom we have. It’s the whole point of the country,” Carlson declared, “and there is no point in supporting Ukraine if our leaders ignore our own bill of rights, and we should demand that they respect our Bill of Rights before they take a single step forward in defense of any other democracy. Period.”
