An “unsavvy” U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) attempted some selective editing to make ex-President Trump look bad, but internet sleuths quickly corrected the record.
The unrepentant Russia hoaxer shared an incomplete transcript of Trump’s interview on the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show to claim that “Donald Trump *endorses* Putin’s invasion of a democratic country. This is the leader of the Republican Party.”
The content that Swalwell, a failed 2020 presidential candidate whose campaign for the White House lasted about three months, posted on Twitter ended with Trump describing Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “very savvy” guy whom he knows well.
Several conservative influencers pointed out that wait, there’s more, to borrow a recurring phrase from infomercials.
Swalwell’s rendition was described as “a blatant lie. Swalwell cut off Trump’s full remarks.”

Trump, whose refreshing communication style is unlike a typical politician and sometimes, however, results in controversy or unforced errors, went on to say that in the omitted portion that the “unthinkable” incursion or invasion would never have happened when he, Trump, was in office.
He criticized President Biden for not responding initially to the looming crisis and described the current situation as “very sad.”
During the approximately half-hour interview that took place at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday and that covered numerous topics, Trump also recalled how he got along well with “tough cookie” Vladimir Putin and added that he repeatedly warned Putin against invading Ukraine.
Putin “is acting a little differently, I think, now,” Trump noted. “I think he sees this opportunity.”
“I know that he always wanted #Ukraine. I used to talk to him about it. I said you can't do it, you're not gonna do it. But I could see that he wanted it. I used to ask him, we used to talk about it at length.” – Former President Donald Trump #Putin #Russia pic.twitter.com/CFU5enernp

“Here's a guy that says, 'I'm gonna declare a big portion of #Ukraine independent… And we're gonna go out and we're gonna go in and we're gonna help keep peace.’.. And you know what the response was from #Biden? There was no response.” – Former President Donald Trump #Putin pic.twitter.com/xWo8XOyiKU

“Take the five worst presidents in history of our country, combine them, and I don’t think they’ve done the damage that this administration has done,” he separately remarked during the conversation, which also includes domestic economic woes.
Trump also alluded to the fact that Putin annexed Crimea during the Obama/Biden administration and has designs on Ukraine under the Biden/Harris regime.
Others are also weighing in on Swalwell’s cherry-picked handiwork, including Real Clear Investigations writer Mark Hemingway who similarly observed that “No, Trump did not endorse the invasion — Swalwell cut off the rest of Trump’s remarks where he said it was ‘very sad.'”

Swalwell sleeps with Chinese spies and farts on national TV. No one should take his word seriously.

All the media and haters misunderstood what he said…which is the same during his 4 years.

The left wing media is lying and misleading you about our interview with #DonaldJTrump. Go and listen to what he actually said in full context for yourself.https://t.co/Qo4uyIoinf https://t.co/NSqhFS8DpD

I really hate Trump, but it’s so counterproductive for the media to take literally everything he says out of context. We have the internet… everyone can go see what actually happened and then it just undermines everyone’s trust that anything is ever real.

@ericswalwell The only “invasion” Swalwell has expertise in is related to Fang Fang.

Swalwell has no credibility after lying about the Russia investigation. His flatulent tweets cannot obscure, cloud or fog that fact.

Sarcasm still doesn’t play well in text form. There are a few lines that are questionable if they’re not sarcasm. Aside from that, it’s Trump saying things you would expect him to.

Literally 0 wars under trump. 2 embassies evacuated in 13 months under Biden. Russia did nothing under trump. Biden gave Putin a pipeline day 1. Gtfo

It’s not like we haven’t seen them take the simplest statement out of context. So no one should really act that surprised.
