A corporate media outlet is getting absolutely roasted on social media for damage-control efforts on behalf of the Democrats by blaming economic woes on the Ukraine crisis rather than on the Biden administration’s massive federal spending spree and other domestic policy miscues.
In a tweet, liberal CBS News claimed, “The U.S. economy has been hit with increased gas prices, inflation, and supply-chain issues due to the Ukraine crisis.” [emphasis added]
In an article that CBS linked to, the news organization asserted, in part, that “gasoline prices, which have — could surge even further if the hostilities escalate or if U.S. lawmakers pass
Although readers can review the entire write-up for the full context, the CBS reporting also perhaps downplayed what might be further in store, as it were, for Americans’ wallets by claiming that “While prices spiked during the coronavirus pandemic, consumers were able to weather the shock thanks to enhanced unemployment benefits, federal stimulus payments and tax credits from the U.S. government.”

“Although gas prices and inflation have been predicted to rise if Russia continues its actions in Ukraine, inflation had already reached a 40-year high earlier this month when the consumer price index rose 7.5% from last year. Gas prices have also already steadily risen this year, with the national average reaching $3.48 per gallon last week,” Fox News explained on Wednesday about trends that pre-dated the eastern Europe situation.
Fox Business has previously reported that “Americans have already seen prices on common good rise thanks to a four-decade high in inflation, according to the consumer price index. Those price increases have been spread across almost all common goods, including medical care, clothing, transportation, food, and shelter.”
The neo-lib and neocon cohort seems to be clamoring for the U.S. to intervene in the hostilities between Russia and Ukraine even as CBS News conceded in the same article that “many Americans may prefer that the U.S.of the conflict.”

Many of the loudest voices on the left, moreover, have traditionally been vocally anti-war and pro-free speech and highly skeptical of intelligence-gathering agencies and big corporations. Nor were they hawks during the Cold War when the Soviet Union was still constituted.
All that has appeared to fundamentally change in recent years.
Democrats from Biden on down, moreover, seem to be far more concerned with protecting the integrity of Ukraine’s border than the U.S. southern border.
Russia is said to be the second-largest oil producer in the world as well as a leader in natural gas production. Under President Trump, the U.S. was energy independent, one of many America First policies that the Biden team reversed.
As alluded to above, critics are scolding CBS for its unconvincing attempt at deflection. Here is just a sample of the response:
They’re really trying to do this aren’t they? I mean it’s incredible. I don’t know whether to be upset or impressed with the level of brazen insanity it takes to try to pull this off to run cover for Democrats.

.@Twitter, I need you to label this tweet from @CBSNews as misinformation. Increased gas prices, inflation, and supply-chain issues already exist because of terrible economic policy from the Biden Administration. https://t.co/xMSn9itDEQ

Russia is a dictatorship because they have state-run media that parrots the Putin regime propaganda. Not like America, where we have a totally free press 😒

So. None of this was around prior to the Ukraine crisis? How far you’ve fallen as a news outlet.
