A Utah man was arrested after he allegedly instructed his 4-year-old son to open fire at police as a temper tantrum over a McDonald’s drive-thru window mix-up morphed into a potentially fatal incident, yet another sad testament of these disturbing times.

The action went down on Monday afternoon at the restaurant in Midvale, which is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, when the man who has been identified as 27-year-old Sadaat Johnson who was in a car with two children got into a heated dispute with workers after his order was incorrect and allegedly brandished a gun at them.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported that “McDonald’s employees told the man that they were going to fix his order, and asked him to pull around to the front of the building,” Sgt. Melody Cutler of the Unified Police Department said. “They then called 911.”

After police showed up, they ordered Johnson to get out of the car multiple times and after he did not comply, they forcibly removed him from the vehicle, “but then an officer noticed that a gun was sticking out of an open door of the vehicle,” the outlet reported.

The officer was able to deflect the weapon as the child discharged it, the bullet struck an awning at the restaurant, burning the arm of the officer as it went off.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, “The car’s tinted windows made it difficult to see inside, but the officer saw that the person who had pulled the trigger was a 4-year-old boy. The officer yelled “Kid! Kid! Kid!” to alert the other officers at the scene, “preventing a horrific tragedy,” Cutler said. A 3-year-old girl was also in the backseat.”

Police were told by a witness that Johnson ordered the child to pull the trigger.

Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera suggested that the demonization of police was a contributing factor to the incident.

“This campaign against police officers, this needs to stop. We’re here to protect and serve, and this is getting out of hand,” she said. “This is a child who thought it was okay to pull a firearm and shoot that firearm at police. I’ve never seen anything like this in my 28 years.”

An already dangerous job became even more difficult after a 2020 video went viral of career criminal and drug addict George Floyd who perished as a result of his fateful encounter with Minneapolis Police when he was resisting arrest, providing fuel for the political left’s jihad against law enforcement.

With violent riots erupting in cities from coast to coast and Floyd becoming a martyr figure, the virulently anti-cop Black Lives Matter movement’s radical message was sanctioned by nearly all of Corporate America, the media, and professional sports leagues as police were scapegoated. Many top Democrats piled on as well, effectively putting targets on the backs of those who chose to serve and protect.

Sheriff Rivera also issued a statement following the McDonald’s incident: “To have an adult think it is okay to encourage a 4-year-old to pull a firearm and shoot at police illustrates how out of hand the campaign against police has gotten. This needs to stop, and we need to come together as a community to find solutions to the challenges we face in our neighborhoods. Officers are here to protect and serve, and we are beyond belief that something like [that] could happen.”
