Canada’s crackdown on truckers and those protesting the country’s COVID-19 mandates is far from over.
Government officials are reportedly employing law enforcement in the hunt for any persons involved with the recent Freedom Convoy. Truckers who have not already been arrested are finding their bank accounts and assets seized as authorities say they are prepared to continue investigations for months if necessary.
The panel of Fox News’ “The Five” on Monday discussed the ways in which the Canadian government deals with crises and protests and how that differs fundamentally from how the United States treats civil disobedience.
“I could write a book on how not to handle a crisis, and Justin Trudeau would be on the cover,” remarked co-panelist Dana Perino.
She described how outrageous she believes it is that the Canadian government plans to go after people who have already left the site of protests and gone home. Some truckers have had their vehicles seized with no return of their property in sight.
“Where are the pro bono lawyers to try to help challenge these accounts being seized?” she wondered. Perino added a touch of levity to the situation by asking rhetorically if the many Hollywood lefties who repeatedly threaten to relocate to Canada whenever someone they don’t like is elected to office would be so quick to move considering that evidently their property and money can be seized if the government so wishes it.
“We must send peace-keeping forces to Canada at this point,” co-host Jesse Watters quipped.
“I looked into their legal system and it’s not anything like the freedom we have here. They don’t take religious liberty as seriously as we do, their gun control laws are hyper-strict, the government runs the health care system over there, and hate speech is a crime,” he observed.
Co-panelist Geraldo Rivera naturally took the Canadian government’s side in the argument.
“It’s about shutting down Canada for three and a half weeks. The people of Ottawa were totally inconvenienced,” he asserted and whiningly alleged that some protestors had made fun of people who wore masks.
Co-panelist Johnny “Joey” Jones commented on the “vindictive” nature of the government in its pursuit of those involved in a protest that has already been squashed. He responded to Rivera’s assertion that auto industry employees have been inconvenienced by their parts not being delivered by the protesting truckers. As BPR reported earlier in February, both Ford and Toyota were temporarily halting production, the latter at three separate plants in Ontario.
“One of those [auto workers] is my best friend, and he would call you right now and tell you he also doesn’t want a government telling him that he should get a vaccine or vaccinate his kids,” Jones told Rivera.
He continued, “That’s part of this problem here. That’s the rest of this conversation. It’s not just the inconvenience of the people that live in Ottawa or perhaps Washington D.C.”
Co-panelist Emily Compagno concluded, “And if the pet relinquish thing actually happens, there is a special place in the endless embers for that government.”
