A new study has found COVID-19 may be leaving a cardiovascular crisis in its wake, even for mild cases.
“Nature Medicine” published the findings after a recent study conducted on U.S. veterans with recorded cases of COVID-19 infection. A team of researchers from the St. Louis Health Care System and the Washington University School of Medicine worked in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to study 153,760 U.S. veterans who had COVID-19 for at least 30 days after diagnosis.
Ziyad Al-Aly, MD, representing Washington University, tweeted a summary of the study that found “a wide range of cardiovascular diseases at 1 year” post-infection.

Dr. Al-Aly goes on to list “cerebrovascular disorders, dysrhythmias, ischemic and non-ischemic heart disease, pericarditis, myocarditis, heart failure and thromboembolic disease,” among other possible outcomes. They found a cardiovascular problem was 63 percent more likely among their cohort than in their control groups. The increased likelihood spread across different demographics regardless of age, race, sex or previous factors.
According to a report from The Washington Post, Nicole Murphy of Wellsville, Ohio has been experiencing an erratic pulse in the five months following her coronavirus infection. Murphy, 44, had no prior record of a heart condition and now routinely sees her pulse at rest go from a rate in 70 beats per minute range to anywhere from 160-210 beats per minute.
While the National Institutes of Health have begun their own studies on the outcomes and possible treatments of “Long COVID,” a term used to describe ongoing complications post-infection, there are still doubts among the public caused by medical bureaucracy and the censoring of information.
Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was found to be withholding data regarding COVID’s impact. The suggested reason for the delay in release was concern that the data would give the wrong impression about the effectiveness of vaccines and they don’t want to harm their messaging.
On vaccines, the study published by “Nature Medicine” took into account the risk of myocarditis and pericarditis associated with COVID-19 vaccines. The study found that “myocarditis and pericarditis in this study is significant in people who were not vaccinated and is evident regardless of vaccination status.”
The study only looked at subjects who had diagnosed cases of COVID-19. There is no mention of vaccinated subjects who experience myocarditis and pericarditis regardless of infection status. A report from the Telegraph covered a study that specifically examined 12 to 15-year-old boys and found the risk for heart issues was six times higher than the risk of a serious case of COVID.
