‘Freedom Convoy’ organizer DENIED bail, and that’s not the scariest part

“Freedom Convoy” leader and organizer Tamara Lich was denied $5,000 bail on Tuesday by an Ottawa judge who was not convinced she would go home, cease “criminal activities,” or refrain from counseling others to partake in protests.

“There is a substantial risk you will continue these actions and will not abide by an order,” the judge informed Lich, according to the Post Millennial. The admonishment disturbingly seemed to echo those of judges handing down sentences for the Jan. 6 protesters in the U.S.

Her husband Dwayne Lich, who would be responsible to report any breach of bail conditions, gave “unreliable and not credible” evidence, the judge asserted.

“Your recent history in our city … satisfies me that your detention is necessary for the safety and protection of the public,” the judge added.

There were those on social media and elsewhere that cheered the judge for denying Lich’s bail.

“This community has already been impacted enough by some of the criminal activity and blockades you took part in and even led,” Ontario Superior Court Justice Julie Bourgeois stated.

“You have had plenty of opportunity to remove yourself and even others from this criminal activity but obstinately chose not to and persistently counseled others not to either. In Canada, every citizen can certainly disagree with and protest against government decisions but it needs to be done in a democratic fashion in abidance with the laws that have been established democratically,” Bourgeois chastised Lich.

The judge also accused Lich of acting “guarded” and that her attitude seemed almost “obstructive,” according to the CBC. The convoy leader is facing charges of mischief which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison in Canada. Lich was the person behind the GoFundMe campaign that raised nearly $10 million for the truckers before the fundraising platform froze it.

“The accused is liable, upon conviction, a lengthy term of imprisonment,” the judge threatened.

Lich was told not to communicate with other organizers unless in the presence of a lawyer. She was arrested five days ago and is set to appear in court on March 2.

Before she was arrested, Lich told the CBC that she wasn’t concerned about being arrested, didn’t think the protest was illegal, and also said her bank account was frozen.

Ottawa’s Mayor Jim Watson announced on Saturday that he hopes to sell the confiscated trucks that were forcibly seized from the “Freedom Convoy” protesters to recoup costs due to the demonstrations.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has invoked the Emergencies Act which is allowing not only Watson to take what isn’t his, but for bank and credit institutions to freeze protesters’ accounts. In response to the act being invoked, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police started providing a list of people who are suspected of participating or aiding in the protests to major banks, so that they can freeze their accounts as well.

Just as disturbing as the Mounted Police trampling an elderly woman with a walker, over 100 checkpoints being set up, and the seizure of monies and private property is the attitude of Democrats in a recent poll.

A poll conducted by the Trafalgar Group and Convention of States Action showed that 55 percent of likely general election voters overall disapprove of Trudeau’s handling of the protestors in Ottawa and across the country. Thirty-five percent approve of Trudeau’s heavy-handed tactics and 10 percent said they were unaware of what was happening north of the U.S. border.

Perhaps most disturbing is that 65 percent of Democrats approve of Trudeau’s authoritarian moves.

A sizable portion of Canadians also approve of Trudeau’s actions and have been cheering him on with the “Trudeau was right” hashtag that trended on Twitter for hours.

As a bit of a silver lining, there are people who see these actions as a loss of freedom, and aren’t afraid to call it out:

Also, it should be noted that 87 percent of Republicans disapprove of Trudeau’s actions according to the Trafalgar Group poll. The highest level of disapproval was in the 25 to 34 age demographic, where 100 percent said they disapprove of Trudeau’s tactics.
