Trump fires back at ‘scam’ after National Archives says he took classified docs: ‘They did not find anything…’

Former President Donald Trump said Democrats are in search of “their next scam” after drawing conclusions on “an ordinary and routine process” pertaining to his presidency.

Shortly after reports came out that the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) had collected 15 boxes from Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago in accordance with the Presidential Records Act (PRA), assumptions of scandal began to circulate between Democrats and their corporate media surrogates.

NARA had pointed out that Trump representatives were in full cooperation to securely transport the records that had not been turned in at the end of Trump’s administration, and asserted it was not a “raid.”

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), Chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security and member of the January 6 Committee, was ready to make a criminal referral to the Justice Department even though he admitted it remained unknown what was in the records NARA had collected.

Following the initial report, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Chairwoman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, had sent a letter to NARA with a set of carefully worded questions on the matter.

NARA has responded to Maloney’s letter and one answer, in particular, has drawn many to presumptively conclude that there is a scandal despite no actual evidence being presented.

Maloney asked the NARA if, “the Archivist notified the Attorney General that former President Trump removed presidential records from the White House? If not, why not?”

David Ferriero, Archivist of the United States, formally responded, “Because NARA identified classified information in the boxes, NARA staff has been in communication with the Department of Justice.”

It is worth noting, communication with the Justice Department is not the same thing as a “criminal referral” the likes Thompson appears eager to make. This response had followed the earlier line of questioning seeking answers as to the contents of the 15 boxes and a full inventory.

Ferriero explained that NARA expected to complete a full inventory by February 25 and some of the items were, “marked as classified national security information within the boxes.” There was no follow-up inquiry to determine if Trump had declassified these documents under his authority as president.

Trump released a statement Friday that adds further light to the responses Ferriero offered to Maloney.

“The National Archives did not ‘find’ anything,” Trump reminded to begin, “they were given, upon request, Presidential Records in an ordinary and routine process to ensure the preservation of my legacy and in accordance with the Presidential Records Act. If this was anyone but ‘Trump,’ there would be no story here.”

Trump continued to highlight ongoing attempts to smear him and his administration.

“Instead, the Democrats are in search of their next Scam. The Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax turned out to be a Democrat inspired fake story to help Crooked Hillary Clinton. Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, and so much more, has all been a Hoax,” he continued.

He then went on to point out the media’s continued role in pushing these narratives. “The Fake News is making it seem like me, as the President of the United States, was working in a filing room.”

“No,” Trump asserted before recounting his record as president. “I was busy destroying ISIS, building the greatest economy America had ever seen, brokering Peace deals, making sure Russia didn’t attack Ukraine, making sure China didn’t take over Taiwan, making sure there was no inflation, creating an energy independent country, rebuilding our military and law enforcement, saving our Second Amendment, protecting our Border, and cutting taxes.”

The statement closed out by then contrasting Trump’s successes to the current failings under President Biden.

“Now, Russia is invading Ukraine, our economy is being destroyed, our Border is once again overrun, and the mandate continues,” he said. “Instead of focusing on America, the media just wants to talk about their plan to ‘get’ Trump. The people won’t stand for it any longer!”
