A Pennsylvania school board has voted in favor of pulling the plug on the mandatory streaming of CNN into middle school classrooms, a major win for those who believe that America’s impressionable young minds should be subjected to a diverse variety of viewpoints.
On Monday, members of the Norwin School Board which is near Pittsburgh voted to end the daily broadcasts of CNN 10, the 10-minute daily digital broadcast that is tailored for young captive audiences and is described by CNN as serving “a growing audience interested in compact on-demand news broadcasts ideal for explanation seekers on the go or in the classroom.”
The 5-4 vote did not completely ban CNN but rather ended the requirement for it to be broadcast during homeroom as well as eliminating television during the period “unless it is either student, teacher or administrator driven to allow students to socialize and interact with each other,” Fox News reported, citing a school district representative.
“It was further clarified that the board will allow teachers to use discretion and broadcast videos from all sources, including videos pertaining to patriotic holidays,” according to Fox News.
On Friday’s edition of “Fox & Friends First,” two members of the Norwin School Board joined co-host Carley Shimkus to discuss the vote, the latest example of the growing pushback against leftist indoctrination in classrooms.
Shimkus asked board members Alex Detschelt and Christine Baversoa about the decision to put the kibosh on CNN 10.
“So, firstly let us explain that we ran in November in a very contentious election and we ran on anti-CRT and then obviously, no tax increase policy and we also were against mask mandates. And we’re at the point now where we need to start fulfilling some of the campaign promises,” Detschelt responded.
“So, but if you think about CNN 10 what it really stands for, you’re putting something in the classroom these kids are forced to sit there and watch it short of, you know, plugging their ears,” he continued. “It’s a singular viewpoint so any type of viewpoint like that or a source, a singular source has an inherent bias to it you know, whether it be, you know simplification or oversimplification of some of the news issues or a distortion of the facts. And then finally, I think that there’s a different approach to what we can do with those ten minutes in class.”
Simkus replied, “Yeah, one of the examples you gave to why you didn’t think CNN 10 was the best option, the collapse of Venezuela was due to falling oil prices, no mention of socialism which is pretty important.”
She then turned to Baversoa, “Christine, do parents support this decision?”
“It’s very slim in our community,” she answered. “It shouldn’t be political but it is, we have the Republicans supporting this and the Democrats that are opposing this to the point like it’s causing turmoil in the community and a backlash in our schools, and our principals and the secretaries are getting phone calls.”
Simkus expressed empathy over the situation and asked the duo why they thought that they won their election to the school board.
Detschelt replied, “I think you know it’s about resonating with your constituency and you know, if you put yourself out there and say what you want to do, and you are going to be accomplishing those goals and you have the right team to work with, I think that’s the key, get the right people on there and you can do great things.”
Conservatives have been posting wins as they seek to roll back the ideological left’s brainwashing in the nation’s classrooms. And in a major victory that has drawn much attention, three radically progressive school board members in San Francisco were overwhelmingly ousted earlier in the week.
