Bill Melugin of Fox News is one of the few journalists covering an ongoing crisis at home while the Biden administration seems transfixed with securing Ukraine’s border with Russia.
That crisis is the surge of illegal immigrants into America prompted by open borders, catch-and-release, and deportation-averse Biden policies, in an out-of-control scenario that shows no sign of abating.
According to Melugin: “In a federal court filing obtained by Fox News, [Department of Homeland Security] reports 153,941 migrant encounters in January, almost doubling Jan. ‘21 (78,414) and more than quadruple Jan. ‘20 (36,585). DHS also reports 62,573 migrants were released into U.S. just last month alone.”
Melugin added that “DHS still has not publicly released the January numbers, even though we are halfway through February, and according to their court filing, they already know the numbers. January is typically one of the slowest months at the border. FY’22 continues to smash FY’21 number.”

FY’22 continues to smash FY’21 number. @FoxNews— Bill Melugin (@BillFOXLA) February 16, 2022
Melugin has previously reported how the feds are mass releasing single, mostly male adult illegal aliens in Texas and then flying them to other parts of the country.
The administration’s newest plan is to place migrants under house arrest, as a more cost-effective alternative to detention, first in a limited pilot program, and later nationwide.
U.S. border officials reportedly made nearly two million arrests at the southern border in 2021, and “402,000 were released into the US for further processing,” the New York Post reported.
This does not take into account the thousands who evaded detection despite the hard work of the understandably overwhelmed Border Patrol.

If 2022 data is actually outpacing last year, which set a record, as Melugin appears to be suggesting, the numbers of undocumented persons pouring into the country could be even more staggering.
In addition to individuals and families seeking a better life without going through legal channels, and which sometimes results in gaming the asylum application process, an open border also gives a green light to drug smugglers, organized gangs, human traffickers, and terrorists.
In the meantime, Vice President Kamala Harris, who was previously tapped to address the “root causes” of the southern border disaster, is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy this week at the Munich, Germany, Security Conference to discuss the possible threat to Ukraine’s border from Russian troops.

Former President Donald Trump, and many others, have said that if you don’t have a border, you don’t have a country.
Democrats have often been accused of throwing open the U.S. border as an attempt to ultimately create a new government-dependent voting constituency. Fox News host Tucker Carlson, for one, has raised this issue, prompting controversy.
Twitter is reacting to the eye-popping numbers revealed by Bill Melugin. Here is a sampling:
Not a single, solitary soul in the entire Biden administration gives a damn about our borders, sovereignty, or their responsibility to protect and defend the Republic. They are unworthy of even our contempt, though they are contemptuous of our great nation.#TheGreatAmericaShow https://t.co/dUN6kWb3vM

Understand that the border crisis will continue as long as Biden is in the White House. https://t.co/nlW6wy4kKp

Yet another reason @JoeBiden‘s poll numbers are abysmal, and will only get worse. @TheDemocrats are going to lose big in the mid-terms.

I voted for Biden but he seems far more interested in protecting the Ukrainian border than his own.

Bill is the only one putting in the work to expose @JoeBiden and is @DHSgov disaster. This is unreal.

153,941 encounters is the highest January number in over 20 years.
And for context on the 62,573 illegal immigrants released into the US … during Trump’s last full month in office that number was 17. https://t.co/MYCIU4pX5r
