‘Who can be that stupid?’ Scarborough’s reaming of FOX’s Durham probe coverage sounds a lot like projection

Joe Scarborough went on defense for Hillary Clinton Tuesday, calling Fox News “willfully stupid” or guilty of “deliberately lying” about John Durham’s court filing last week.

Scarborough, co-host of “The Morning Joe” with Mika Brzezinski, was joined by NBC News reporter Tom Winter and NBC News analyst John Heilemann to parse through suppositions and details of an investigation that has not yet been finalized to, un-ironically in their minds, dismiss the conclusions that are being drawn from the Durham filing.

To summarize, the filing asserts a conflict of interest surrounding Michael Sussmann, an attorney for Hillary Clinton. Reportedly, he was feeding false information to the FBI obtained from a South African Clinton activist named Rodney Joffe. Joffe used a Pentagon contract to collect data from then-President Trump, including from the Executive Office of the President. All of this was reportedly meant to tie Trump to Russia.

Brzezinski laid all of this out at the beginning of the segment before Scarborough pointed out that following this ongoing investigation is “confusing.”

“I remember when the initial story came out,” Scarborough said, “and I read through it and I said, ‘What?'”

After admitting his own inability to keep up with the facts, he then accused those who have drawn the conclusion from the filing that the Hillary Clinton campaign was responsible for crafting the Russia collusion narrative by saying, “A lot of people [are] being willfully stupid.”

“Who can be that stupid?” Scarborough asked before attacking the integrity of those reporting on the filing, “Or else they know that they’re lying to their audience, that they’re liars and they’re deliberately lying about this.”

Gianno Caldwell, host of the podcast “Outloud with Gianno Caldwell,” pointed out a fact that Scarborough was leaving out: The investigation isn’t over.

To the point that this is still an ongoing investigation and more people are ready to come forward and cooperate, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) honed in on what she views as the problem here.

“The Durham investigation has shown that the biggest threat to our democracy is not some foreign country, but rather the Power Elite led by the likes of Hillary Clinton,” Gabbard’s tweet reads before turning on the likes of Scarborough, “and her co-conspirators in the mainstream media & security state who work to undermine our democracy from within.”

They deflected from the story and acted as though Clinton held no culpability for years, and they will continue to do so until all the facts are presented, and likely afterward as well.

Scarborough should remember that the internet is forever and his final thoughts in the clip may not age well.

“There’s not been a charge against Joffe. There’s not been a charge against Hillary Clinton’s campaign. There’s not been a charge against anybody except this lawyer Sussmann,” Scarborough stated before adding, “There’s no way they’re ever going to convict him on this.”
