Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke is attempting to memory hole comments he made in 2019 while running for the presidency when he stated that “hell yes” he intends to take guns away from citizens if elected to office.
He is now claiming he doesn’t want to do any such thing.
“I’m not interested in taking anything from anyone,” O’Rourke told reporters in Tyler, Texas during a rally on Tuesday, according to KLTV. “What I want to make sure that we do is defend the Second Amendment.”
But that’s not what he said in 2019: “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans anymore.”
“If someone does not turn in an AR-15, or an AK-47,” he threatened during an appearance on CNN, “one of these weapons of war, or brings it out in public and brandishes it in an attempt to intimidate, as we saw in Kent State recently, then that weapon will be taken from them.”
A couple years ago, @BetoORourke promised national gun confiscation.
Now that he is running for governor of Texas, he is changing his tune.

“If they persist, there will be other consequences from law enforcement,” O’Rourke asserted.
His shifting, flip-flopping claims on the Second Amendment are now front and center, but as recently as last November O’Rourke told CNN anchor Jake Tapper, “I still hold that view.”

“Most of us understand the responsibility that comes with owning a firearm,” he told the Texas Tribune in November, adding “and we will vigorously protect that Second Amendment right and also protect the lives of those around us.”
“But I think most of us also understand that we should not have military-style weapons used against our fellow Texans. We have four of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history right here in Texas that took place over the last five years,” he said.

On Tuesday, he was singing a radically different tune, telling reporters that his position on guns is based on his desire to “listen to law enforcement.”
“I want to make sure that we protect our fellow Texans far better than we’re doing right now,” O’Rourke declared. “And that we listen to law enforcement, which Greg Abbott refused to do. He turned his back on them when he signed that permitless carry bill that endangers the lives of law enforcement in a state that’s seen more cops and sheriff’s deputies gunned down than in any other.”
The number of Texans shot to death has gone up EVERY single year under Abbott. 4,164 Texans in 2020 alone.
How does Abbott respond? By signing a dangerous law that makes it easier for criminals to carry a loaded gun in public.
His radical agenda is killing the people of Texas.

The gubernatorial primary is slated to take place on March 1 when O’Rourke is expected to move on to the general election to face-off with the state’s current Republican Gov. Greg Abbott. The governor is facing primary opposition from over half a dozen contenders, including former Texas GOP chair Allen West and former state Sen. Don Huffines. Currently, Abbott is reportedly leading the crowded field.
Despite the hype from leftist media outlets, O’Rourke is stunningly unpopular in the state of Texas, especially when it comes to gun rights.
