‘Liberal privilege is real’: People ask why Disney fired Gina Carano but not Whoopi, actress weighs in

Is Whoopi Goldberg benefiting from liberal privilege at Disney-owned ABC?

The network suspended “The View” co-host Goldberg, who spends a lot of the show’s airtime finger-wagging at those who disagree with the left-wing agenda, for two weeks (and it’s not even clear if it’s without pay) for idiotic, ill-informed, and offensive remarks about the Holocaust.

In a statement released on Tuesday evening, ABC News President Kim Godwin said that “Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments. While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”

Some argue that other celebrities have received far harsher career punishment for their transgressions, however, including real-life martial artist and action-movie star Gina Carano.

In February 2021, Disney subsidiary Lucasfilm parted ways with conservative Carano, who portrayed fan-favorite Cara Dune on the Star Wars spinoff “The Mandalorian” after a controversial and subsequently deleted Instagram post.

The post apparently sought to compare Germany’s former genocidal dictatorship with the polarized political situation and cancel culture in contemporary America.

As a footnote, Lucasfilm never took any action when another “Mandalorian” star, who plays the title character, previously tweeted out Holocaust imagery to smear then-President Donald Trump.

You may recall that ABC immediately booted socialist-turned-Trump supporter Roseanne Barr from the popular reboot of “Roseanne” sitcom in May 2018 after she mocked Obama aide Valerie Jarrett in a tweet that was condemned as racist. Roseanne did apologize for the social media message.

Presumably, there are other examples of cancellations that have occurred behind the scenes or have received less publicity.

Separately, over on CBS, Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy’s wife, was sent packing from “The Talk” in March 2021 over racism allegations merely for defending her friend Piers Morgan over claims that he was racist for his criticism of Meghan Markle.

Even though she received a metaphorical slap on the wrist, rumors have emerged that Goldberg is threatening to step down from the show permanently, according to the New York Post:

“Whoopi Goldberg is ‘livid’ after she was suspended from ‘The View’ over her claim that the Holocaust was ‘not about race’ — and is telling co-workers she is going to quit the show, according to a source. Goldberg, 66, feels ‘humiliated’ at being disciplined by ABC execs after she followed their advice to apologize for the ill-conceived comments, a well-placed insider told The Post.”

Various influencers and commentators on Twitter claim that there is, nonetheless, a double-standard in play when it comes to the way that the increasingly woke Disney conglomerate is responding to the Whoopi Goldberg situation.

Gina Carano herself also weighed in:
