Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson may or may not be angling for a job on CNN if her recent comments on that ratings-challenged network are any indication.
Carlson was, in part, reacting to namesake (but no relation) Tucker Carlson for raising questions about why the political/media echo chamber seems hell-bent on fomenting a war with Russia. Tucker has warned time and again that CCP-controlled China is the real threat on the world stage.
In cherry-picking one clip from Tucker Carlson Tonight, Fox News-obsessed, Donald Trump-loathing CNN anchor Jim Acosta teed up the interview — on a show that hardly anybody watches, according to viewer ratings, outside of a few clips that attract some attention on social media — by accusing the Fox News host of a pro-Russia bias.
Gretchen ran with it, suggesting that Tucker’s commentary was “first and foremost” a ratings ploy by Fox. She then articulated many of the corporate media standard talking points.
“This is a result of fake news, We’re seeing not only the fallout from fake news during the Trump era but what happened with the insurrection on January 6,” she said about what she apparently considers the real story. “But now it’s moving into other areas, not just news. Now it’s hitting science, the vaccines, and now it’s into Cold War politics.”
The Cold War ended in 1991, however, with the collapse of the Soviet Union.

“The idea that we are talking about whether or not we should support Ukraine or Russia — there wouldn’t be a Republican on the planet that five years ago would have said they supported Russia over Ukraine, but this is where we are now,” she continued.
“Conservative television news is certainly not the conservative news that was out there even five years ago,” she added, which is accurate in that many pundits on the right have come over to the America First mindset rather than the conventional GOP establishment globalist viewpoint.
When Acosta bemoaned Fox News’ anchors’ allegedly communicating with President Trump or the Trump team on January 6, she implied that it happens “on the other side too,” depending on who is in the White House. She then criticized, however, her former colleagues for disingenuousness by supposedly saying something completely opposite on the air.
“It’s gone from opinion, which was fine, to complete devolving into non-fact-based conspiracy theories and outright dangerous rhetoric in my mind,” Gretchen Carlson said on the pro-Democrat network that often traffics in unfounded anti-Trump conspiracy theories.

“I think it is a complete disservice to our country,” she declared. Carlson also bemoaned, accurately, that many viewers only watch other cable news stations that reinforce their belief system (i.e., CNN and MSNBC), she conceded.
“But I think it is incredibly dangerous to have — a big difference between having a conservative opinion and having one that supports conspiracy theories,” Carlson repeated without a hint of irony.
Gretchen Carlson was the co-host of Fox & Friends from 2005 to 2013, at which time she anchored The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson through 2016. Carlson famously sued ex-Fox News boss Roger Ailes and the network for sexual harassment (which opened the floodgates to many other #MeToo allegations against the late CEO) and received a $20 million settlement.
In June 2019, Gretchen Carlson — who won the pageant in 1989 — stepped down as chair of the Miss America Organization after some behind-the scenes controversy.
She is currently championing bipartisan federal legislation that would ban mandatory, contractual out-of-court arbitration for sexual harassment complaints, the passage of which she deemed “my biggest life accomplishment” as well as the biggest labor law change in 100 years.
Gretchen Carlson may have legitimate reasons to have misgivings about Fox News given her history there. This, however, may be another example — which became particularly evident during the Trump era — when media pundits shape their ideology to fit whomever is signing their paycheck or potentially is doing so.
With no apparent self-awareness, Acosta, whose show is called “Democracy in Peril,” seemingly yet another example of projection by liberals, began the segment by accusing the “far-right media” of “continuously pushing out false narratives, conspiracy theories, and the Big Lie.”
Acosta contrasted that with the content presented by “real news media.”
