House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, lauded President Joe Biden’s voter rights speech as “fabulous” even though some of her fellow Democrats thought he went a little too far.
“Do you think that the president may have gone a little bit too far in trying to sell this particular bill to the American people and trying to get votes to try to get this passed?” a reporter asked during Pelosi’s weekly press conference on Thursday.
“No, I stand with the president and I think it was wonderful and I stand with him in the fight for voting rights,” Pelosi responded.
“The only criticism I would make too, I wouldn’t say though criticism, an observation, nobody knows who Bull Connor is. We’re making the case ‘you wanna be will Martin Luther King or Bull Connor?’ Who’s that?” Pelosi said, trying to explain where she thought Biden went wrong. “Should be ‘Martin Luther King and John Lewis, or the people who unleashed vicious dogs on them?'”
Watch:
“Since you asked my critique of the president’s speech, I thought it was fabulous. I congratulate him for it. It was well-received among those who had some apprehension of what’s going to happen with all of this next,” she concluded in responding to the reporter.
Aside from encouraging even more hyperbolic hate toward the people who don’t agree with their policies, Pelosi had little bad to say about Biden’s Atlanta speech, which was knocked by Republicans and Democrats alike.
“Perhaps the president went a little too far in his rhetoric,” said the Senate’s No. 2 Democrat Dick Durbin to CNN. “Some of us do, but the fundamental principles and values at stake are very, very similar.”
Twitter users, however, didn’t think it was so “fabulous” and weren’t appreciative of Pelosi’s attempt to defend Biden:
The sooner this sick and demented woman retires, the sooner America can start healing.

Biden and Pelosi: “We have to save democracy by killing democracy. We need to change the voting rules, that allowed Barack Obama to be elected President (twice) for the good of democracy.”
