CNN host Anderson Cooper interviewed former Fox News political correspondent Carl Cameron who, without a second thought, appeared to turn on host Sean Hannity concerning fairly innocuous texts he sent out surrounding the Jan. 6 Capitol protest.
Cooper went out of his way Wednesday to highlight the purported fact that Hannity has yet to publicly acknowledge the committee’s request. He then proceeded to bring on Cameron, who retired from Fox News in 2017 after working there for more than 20 years.
“Does it surprise you that the public has heard from neither Sean Hannity nor the Fox News Channel since those text messages were released by the committee last night?” Cooper disingenuously asked Cameron. It took very little to prod him into turning on his former colleague.
“I suspect that there’s been an awful lot of closed-door conferences about how to deal with it,” responded Cameron. “And I suspect that a lot of Fox News watchers are wondering when they’re going to reply. Bottom line is, it looks like Sean may have been playing both sides of the fence and got caught. So, Fox viewers heard him seemingly gung-ho for all this when in fact he was talking to both Meadows and Jordan, saying we’ve got a problem. It’s bad and it’s gonna get worse.”
“Sean Hannity for all intents and purposes was an acolyte of Rush Limbaugh 25, 30 years ago as a radio talking head,” Cameron commented taking a swipe at Limbaugh who passed away in 2020 and was considered the king of conservative radio. “He’s not a journalist, doesn’t profess to be. In fact, he says that himself. And so it really is the politicians who have to be held accountable to this, particularly the likes of Jordan and Meadows.”
Cameron, who does not hide his dislike of former President Trump, referred to his claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen. “Donald Trump was the biggest purveyor of all of this stuff,” he charged.
Later, Cameron went on to assert that the network’s on-air talent promotes the claims of “dangerous” people, ostensibly referring to conservatives.
“Much of what you see on most of Fox now are talking heads spitting out their opinions,” Cameron stated, apparently forgetting what network he was on and trashing his former employer and colleagues. “And oftentimes, [they’re] taking the opinions of very dangerous people out there in the general public and making that somehow a reality when so much of it is just – comes right out of their head and isn’t real.”
The leftist House committee sent Hannity a letter on Tuesday asking for his voluntary cooperation. Several of Hannity’s text messages were included in the letter that went to Trump chief-of-staff Mark Meadows and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) before, during, and after the Jan. 6 riot.

“Our nation cannot let anything like January 6th ever happen again,” the letter to Hannity read. “Thus, we write today to seek your voluntary cooperation on a specific and narrow range of factual questions.”
The panel is asserting that the text messages show that Hannity was very concerned with events going on before and during the riot. They also contend that they show former President Trump’s state of mind at the time.
