Capitol Police officers are accusing Sergeant Harry Dunn of making the Jan. 6 riot all about race by repeatedly asserting in testimony that protesters used the N-word against him and others during the incident.

Dunn has made himself the face of the D.C. police force over the Jan. 6 confrontation between Capitol Police officers and protesters that day. This doesn’t sit well with many of his fellow officers, evidently, who feel he focuses on race far too much for their tastes, especially given the fact that the two officers who died following the attack were white, according to The New York Times. They assert he is making the altercation “all about race.”

Dunn testified in front of the January 6 House Select Committee that rioters called him the N-word and that they also hurled other racist pejoratives at him and others.

He has also spent a lot of facetime doing media appearances addressing the alleged racist attacks on Jan. 6. He praises the bravery of the D.C. police force almost as an afterthought.

A number of officers contend that Dunn does not speak for the entire Capitol Police force. They are asserting that the sergeant has grown “increasingly despondent” following the riot and tends to eat his lunch alone in his car. He is said to be depressed and actively isolating himself from other officers.

It’s being put out there that he is dejected over accusations that the police were sympathizers and that he “desperately wanted to offer the contrary facts.”

He claims that officers were overwhelmed during the riot. Dunn acknowledged there were a few instances of what he called “poor judgment” but that officers had “generally acted heroically and were not complicit” in the protest.

Dunn gave an anonymous interview to Buzzfeed just days after the riot. He recounted what happened that day, claiming he dramatically cried out “Is this America?” in the Capitol rotunda.

That was the beginning of a media blitz by Dunn on the issue. He has testified in front of Congress as well as the January 6th committee and, in both instances, has alleged that rioters used the N-word against him and others.

During his testimony in July, Dunn said he told a group of rioters to leave the Capitol and was told by them, “This is our house. Trump invited us here. We’re here to stop the steal.”

He would go on to allege that they also told him “nobody voted for Joe Biden” and that former President Trump had won the 2020 presidential election.

“Well, I voted for Joe Biden. Does my vote not count? Am I nobody?” Dunn asserted he told the protestors.

He went on to state that a woman in a pink MAGA shirt replied, “You hear that, guys, this n***** voted for Joe Biden!”

Then Dunn said that the crowd allegedly started chanting, “Boo! F*****g n*****!” Considering there were black protesters in the mix that day, many find that accusation hard to swallow.

“No one had ever called me a n***** while wearing the uniform of a Capitol Police officer,” Dunn remarked, claiming that a number of other black officers had reported similar incidents.

Officers also reportedly told The New York Times that prior to January 6, they didn’t trust their colleagues to stand firm if Trump lost but refused to leave office and that they openly questioned whether their fellow officers would “turn their guns” on them if they “tried to stand in Trump’s way.”
