U.S. Senator Ted Cruz shared his reaction to a Babylon Bee story on Twitter over the weekend, stating simply that he felt “objectified.”
The Texas Republican’s tongue-in-cheek tweet came in response to a story on the conservative satire site that was published on New Year’s Day.
Titled, “Ted Cruz Says All His Haters Are Just Unable To Resist His Raw Sex Appeal,” the Bee’s satirical story that focused on Cruz poked fun at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her whining about criticism leveled at her by Republicans.
“Cruz said that Democrats who are fixated on criticizing him all the time are obviously motivated by their ‘deranged sexual frustrations,'” the Bee’s story read, adding an image of a supposed tweet by the Texas senator.
“His tweet thread went on to claim that any criticism of him is really just from people who have a thing for husky, sexy, Cuban Americans with manly beards, the intense gaze of an antelope, and the raw strength of a Texan stallion. Those who hate on him, Cruz claimed, are just hypnotized by his speaking voice, the rich baritone notes mesmerizing its victims like sailors enticed by a siren’s song,” the satirical story went on.
The joke, of course, was based on Ocasio-Cortez’s rant last week after being called out when she was spotted maskless in Florida while her home state of New York is facing renewed COVID-19 restrictions.
“It’s starting to get old ignoring the very obvious, strange, and deranged sexual frustrations that underpin the Republican fixation on me, women,& LGBT+ people in general,” the New York congresswoman tweeted. “These people clearly need therapy, won’t do it, and use politics as their outlet instead. It’s really weird.”
Cruz responded simply to the Babylon Bee tweet promoting their article:
