‘Drunk’ Don Lemon rings in the new year with rant: ‘I am a grown, successful black man!’

CNN’s Don Lemon rang in the new year by going on the offensive against his critics, once again throwing down the race card with a tipsy diatribe during the network’s big New Year’s Eve celebration extravaganza.

With hosts Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper reporting on the action in Times Square, Lemon was partying down in New Orleans, another city that has been hit hard by COVID and as the night wore on, all three became looser, leading some to suspect that some imbibing of alcoholic beverages may be a contributing factor to the sloppy coverage.

While the atmosphere was festive in New York, especially Cohen’s epic “sayonara sucker” to outgoing Mayor Bill de Blasio, the noticeably loopy Lemon danced with revelers and uncorked his bitter rant about perceived persecutors.

“I carry the same drink almost the entire night, so it is kind of an act. But, I am letting people into my life, and this is how I am all the time. I share everything,” he began.

Lemon ranted, “I don’t give a — what you think about me, what do you think about that,” he said. “I don’t care, I’m a grown-a** man, and I don’t care what you think about me,”

He continued: “I don’t lie. I am who I am. I am a grown, successful black man who a lot of people hate because they’re not used to seeing me and people like me in the position I am to be able to share my point of view on television and it freaks people out and you know what? You can kiss my behind, I do not care. I don’t care. … I have one life. It is who I am, and I feel very … blessed and honored to be in this position, to be able to do this, for all of the hate I get, it’s motivation to me. Bring it. I don’t care.”

Lemon’s behavior seemed truly cringe-worthy to his fellow CNN hosts as one Twitter user noted:

Others reacted to Lemon’s bizarre behavior in the Big Easy.

The sloshed host topped off the night when he popped out of a lemon cake to greet the New Year.

Given the tumultuous year at the self-proclaimed “most trusted name in news,” with cratering ratings, diminishing credibility with millions of Americans and the firing of his scandal-plagued better half Chris Cuomo, Lemon probably needed to blow off a bit of steam. But it doesn’t reflect well on the flagging network when one of its top personalities gets juiced on the job and then goes of on one of his trademark racial tirades.

Changes could soon be coming to CNN with a report that CEO David Zaslav could clean house after the merger between Discovery and WarnerMedia which owns the network goes through and Lemon’s clown show isn’t likely to impress the bosses.
