Biden gets schooled for taking credit for gains while claiming Trump left economy on ‘brink of collapse’

President Joe Biden — or perhaps the Ivy League-educated intern who may be running his social media messaging — took to Twitter to pat himself on the back for his stewardship of the nation’s fiscal health.

Apart from Democrat blue-check sycophants and others in that cohort, discerning folks seem unconvinced, however, that the Brandon administration is making America great again through its Big Government policies.

“When I took office, our economy was on the brink of collapse. Now, Americans have more money in their pockets than before the pandemic, and retail sales were up 8.5% compared to last holiday season,” Biden claimed, throwing shade on his predecessor in the process.

While Biden may be correct about the holiday sales surge, there are deeper problems: Non-transitory inflation is sapping the purchasing power of the American consumer, however, and the supply chain crisis is as yet unresolved, to just name two of the current economic shortcomings.

Crime is surging in Democrat-run municipalities, some employees are still disincentivized to go back to work, and vaccine mandates and restrictions on commerce remain a matter of controversy and job-related disruption, along with a testing shortage, as the Omicron variant spreads.

These and various other issues that have a profound impact on the U.S. economy and the country’s overall well-being are tanking Biden’s approval rating, according to polls.

The Build Back Better federal government spending binge would have led to even more inflation if U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WVa.) had agreed to go along with it.

Under President Trump’s generally populist-oriented administration, the economy was booming, at least until COVID struck , and it appeared to be rebounding as his first term wound down.

Like him or not, Trump, moreover, was also the only president in recent memory who stood up to expansionist, authoritarian China in the context of the enormous trade imbalance and on other key matters, which would have included holding the CCP accountable for its role in the pandemic.

According to the New York Post editorial board in an essay published earlier this month, Biden’s priorities were or are misplaced:

“Look: The nation was poised for a rapid recovery as Biden took office, with vaccines already rolling out. All the new president had to do was deliver on his vow to make beating COVID his overriding priority…Instead of focusing on COVID, Biden devoted all his energies to using the pandemic as the pretext for a vast spending spree. He pushed through a huge “COVID relief” law that discouraged work and dumped cash on Democratic priorities, then turned to Build Back — a $6 trillion-plus effort to enact the AOC-Bernie Sanders agenda of turning America socialist…”

 

Instead of giving Trump some credit for the handoff, Team Biden typically takes the opposite approach, but that’s usually how tribal politics works.

That aside, Twitter users are questioning the accuracy of the incumbent president’s tweet especially as it relates to the “I” word and Economics 101. Here is a selection:
