A “weaker than Jimmy Carter” and boxed-in President Joe Biden won’t seek reelection in 2024, even if he pretends otherwise, but rumor has it that Hillary Clinton will make a second run for the White House.
That is the assessment of former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) in an appearance on the Fox News Channel’s Ingraham Angle. Gingrich was reacting to Biden’s ABC News interview when the incumbent POTUS, 79, claimed he would run again “if” he is in good health. Biden added that a rematch with Donald Trump would make his reelection bid even more likely.
Guest host Raymond Arroyo teed it up for Gingrich by asking “with [Biden’s] polls in the dumps and his obvious decline, should Biden be so confident about his chances against Trump?”
The former college professor seemed to imply that Biden and the Democrats are getting, at best, an incomplete in Politics 101, especially given that incumbents almost always wants to avoid lame-duck status.
“Well, in all honesty, what choice does [Biden] have?” Gingrich wondered rhetorically.
“You can’t go out there and say ‘Look, I’m doing so badly, and my administration is so stupid, I think I’ll will quit three years from now?’ He’s already in many ways deeply weakened, and Joe Manchin weakened him a little more last week.”

“The economy is weakening him, the COVID is weakening him, the border is weakening him. Go down the list. For him to not pretend that he’s eager, he’s excited, he wants to keep doing things. I think he’s in a box; he has no real choice,” Gingrich continued.
“The question for the American people and for the Democratic Party is ‘[do] you believe that Joe Biden, given this performance in his very first year, is likely to get reelected?’
“He’s already weaker than Jimmy Carter was at this stage. And Carter went down to the worst Electoral College defeat of any incumbent president in modern history. So we’ll see what happens next year; I suspect that Kevin McCarthy will be Speaker and Mitch McConnell will be the majority leader when the dust settles…I fully expect Biden to not run again. I think the Democratic Party would be in a state of shock if he did. I think Kamala Harris is weaker than Biden,” Gingrich insisted.
As a 2020 presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, the ex-California senator and state attorney general before that, dropped out of the campaign even before any votes were cast in the early Iowa Caucuses when she was registering merely about three percent of the vote. There have even been speculation that she might be replaced as VP, but that seems to be a very remote, if at all, possibility.
Parenthetically, the scenario that the McCarthy/McConnell duo may be running the show in Congress after the 2022 midterms (if the GOP doesn’t blow it, which is also a possibility) is not exactly something the MAGA movement, from President Trump on down, would necessarily celebrate.
“The latest rumor I heard was that Hillary’s gonna run,” Gingrich asserted. “And I think that would say a lot about chaos of America if Hillary Clinton reemerged one more time.”
“That little health proviso — that’s an escape hatch if I ever heard one,” Arroyo said, as he wrapped up that portion of the segment. “Clearly, he’s looking for the exits or the party will push him toward it.”
Hillary Clinton who lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election and seemingly has never gotten over it, has recently tried to get back in the media limelight, raising speculation about a political comeback.
In a long, softball interview with NBC’s Sunday Today show earlier this month, Clinton, 74, made a prediction of her own: “If I were a betting person, right now I’d say Trump is going to run again,” she said, although that is necessarily breaking news.

The Democrat establishment personage, whom Donald Trump derisively nicknamed “Crooked Hillary” because of the extensively chronicled scandals in her orbit, ironically warned that Trump getting back in office could lead to the “end of our democracy.”
In addition to some of the unresolved disasters engulfing the Biden administration that Gingrich mentioned, along with soaring inflation and other matters, the president’s capacity is also an issue.
U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Tex.), the retired Navy admiral and former White House doctor, is among those raising questions about the gaffe-prone POTUS’s current cognitive ability.
