New York Post author Karol Markowicz has written a very pertinent and astute opinion piece on woke private preschools indoctrinating the children of the wealthy and elite in places such as New York City to be racists and social justice activists.
“Wokeness has come to New York City elite private schools. It has infested everything, from social interactions to math,” Markowicz points out in her piece.
“A few weeks ago, teachers at Manhattan’s Brick Church School read ‘Our Skin: A First Conversation About Race’ to several classes. In its lessons on racism, all the racists are, of course, white,” she reported.
“One typical line: ‘A long time ago, way before you were born, a group of white people made up an idea called race.’ The idea that people didn’t notice each other’s skin color or features until white people made them is, of course, absurd,” the author contended.
“‘Our Skin’ aims to ’empower activism in young children’ and encourages them to attend protests. This is really the point of such books: to turn kids into little soldiers in the war to implement leftism,” Markowicz charged.

She went on to point out that this type of “wokism” is rampant in New York’s elite private schools and has been for the last year. Many would assert that it has been going on for much longer than that. It gained attention recently with parents protesting Critical Race Theory in both private and public schools across the nation. CRT, “equity” and other initiatives are reportedly being pushed at the top 25 U.S. elite private schools.

The author correctly noted that schools have immersed themselves in costly, massive efforts to protect themselves from claims of racism after the death of George Floyd. It almost appears to be a panic-driven response by leftists rather than a knee-jerk one.
Markowicz went on to highlight that Manhattan’s Brick Church School is a preschool that was founded in 1940. The private school charges $26,700 a year per student and getting admitted is very difficult. Parents actually put their two-year-olds through a rigorous competition to get admitted to the school.
According to a number of parents, teachers read the book “Our Skin” to children as young as three years old. It is evident that the subject matter is being forced on children as young as possible so it will take root later in their lives.
“Parents told me they chose Brick for the preparatory academic experience that would get their child ready for school and this veering into woke philosophy has them worried,” the author remarked.
“The school tried to address their concerns in a letter to parents: ‘As you may know, last week teachers in two classrooms read students a portion of a book, ‘Our Skin: A First Conversation About Race.’ The first part of the book reflects on skin color and supports the school’s goal to celebrate our differences, including the beautiful spectrum of skin colors represented at our school. The teachers did not read (and so the students did not hear) the second part of the book, which delves into the history of race and racism,’” Markowicz recounted in her piece.
Parents evidently charged that the school’s claim is a lie and they don’t believe any part of the book is appropriate for small children.
It’s disgusting. They’re spreading hate into r very youngest. 😠😡

“As Jon Levine reported in The Post, Ethical Culture Fieldston School sought to hire a ballet instructor ‘committed to challenging Western dance forms’ and a science teacher with ‘an understanding of and commitment to cultural competency.’ Grace Church School wants math and science consultants who show a ‘commitment to antiracism and accessibility of student education for diverse learners,'” she wrote concerning the progressive efforts of private schools to inject wokism into every subject.
“The Spence School issued an ‘Anti-Racism Task Force Report’ and asked the entire school community to read the racist book ‘How to Be an Antiracist’ by Ibram X. Kendi,” she wrote.
Markowicz went on to ask why anyone should care since only a small percentage of children attend these private schools for the wealthy. She alludes to the fact that these are the children of “titans of industry, the wealthiest and most influential people in our society.” Many will step into similar roles that their parents hold once they become adults. They will potentially control many facets of American life and what is acceptable or allowed within society.
“Called ‘Baby Ivies,’ these preschools groom children for the elite private schools that prepare them for top colleges. If these kids become a cohort of woke automatons, we’ll feel it throughout a variety of industries. As we watch corporations parrot the same ‘We believe’ woke ideology, remember it begins at places like Brick Church School when the child is just 2. When every single magazine, TV show and movie has the identical conformist ideology, it begins at places like Brick,” she commented.
“So don’t brush off little rich kids being told their race is bad and has always been bad. These scam ideas, always accompanied by scam consultants and scam books, won’t stay among the richest segment of the population. Those kids will be raised to push those insane ideas into the world. We can’t let them,” Markowicz bluntly concluded.
Many are alarmed by what is being taught not only in preschool and at private schools, but across the nation when it comes to leftist indoctrination:
On top of what you wrote, the mere fact that they are bringing it into those schools means it will be further “legitimized” and become more widespread, unfortunately.

Parents are all for teaching their kids history. The problem is the woke staff have proven to be irresponsible to handle this conversation with our kids. But when the teaching sounds like a biased reporter from a left wing newspaper. Parents clearly see, this isn’t education!
