Vice President Kamala Harris admitted the COVID-19 variants came as an unexpected surprise and seemed to throw some shade at scientists in a new interview.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times in an interview published Friday, Harris said that the Biden administration essentially didn’t see Delta or the Omicron variants “coming.” And despite the fact that medical experts have been warning of mutations in the virus nearly since the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the vice president seemed to fault scientists for the administration’s failure and lack of preparation.

“We didn’t see Delta coming. I think most scientists did not — upon whose advice and direction we have relied — didn’t see Delta coming,” Harris told the LA Times.

“We didn’t see Omicron coming. And that’s the nature of what this, this awful virus has been, which as it turns out, has mutations and variants,” she added.

Harris also denied that President Joe Biden and his administration ever prematurely touted a victory over the virus.

“While the virus hasn’t been vanquished, we know this: It no longer controls our lives. It no longer paralyzes our nation. And it’s within our power to make sure it never does again,” Biden had said in a July 4 speech even as the Delta variant had emerged.

“We have not been victorious over it,” Harris asserted in her interview. “I don’t think that in any regard anyone can claim victory when, you know, there are 800,000 people who are dead because of this virus.”

Despite the administration’s failures, Harris continued to beat the drum of vaccinations,  putting the spotlight on those who refuse to get the jab.

“The biggest threat still to the American people is the threat to the unvaccinated. And most people who believe in the efficacy of the vaccine and the seriousness of the virus have been vaccinated,” she said. “That troubles me deeply.”

Twitter users were quick to point out the ‘troubling’ part of the vice president’s remarks:
