Denver public schools resurrect segregated play nights for ‘families of color’ in the name of ‘equity’

Critical Race Theory researcher and writer Christopher Rufo uncovered a disturbing event that is set to take place at a Denver public school promoting a “Families of Color Playground Night” in the name of diversity and twisted equity.

“Denver Public Schools now promoting racially-segregated playtime—for ‘equity,'” Rufo tweeted.

“According to Centennial Elementary staff, this event was organized by the school’s ‘Dean of Culture,’ Nicole Tembrock. The event was cancelled due to COVID protocols, but they plan to reschedule in the new year,” he added in a separate tweet.

University of Denver law professor Dave Kopel pointed out that it is actually illegal to hold such an event under the Colorado Constitution, “In violation of Colo. Const. art. IX, sec. 8: ‘nor shall any distinction or classification of pupils be made on account of race or color.'”

Rufo found more on the event, tweeting, “The “Families of Color Playground Night”—a form of state-sanctioned racial discrimination—is a monthly activity at Centennial Elementary.”

Tembrock’s description on the school website reads:

“Nicole continues to enjoy being a part of the Centennial community! She has worked in the field of education in various capacities. She has working in the areas of school culture, community building, social/emotional learning and youth development. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic. Ms. Tembrock earned a bachelor’s degree in speech communications and psychology from the University of Denver and a master’s degree in nonprofit management from Regis University. Outside of work, Nicole enjoys spending time with her family and friends, especially in the outdoors! Her kids both attended Centennial and now are in middle and high school.”

 

The event that purports to fight racial tensions, inequality, and the effects of past segregation instead confoundingly implements more segregation. Segregation seems to have come full circle and the left is once again implementing it at schools and in other areas of society as some sort of payback for past wrongs.

One commenter on Twitter named Bruno Costa tweeted, “Guess they’re trying the whole separate-but-equal thing.”

Another was incensed by the sign, “WTH is this!! I just looked it up on the school website and sure enough it is there. Why????”

Commenter Brian Gates noted, “Progress is a myth This is absolute insanity.”

“If there was some kind of award for spreading racism this school and others with similar events should get one. The irony is that so many people thing this is good and helping minorities,” one person wrote on the issue.

One of the most astute to comment on the event was Professor Louis Hensler who tweeted, “I need to study up on how the progressive position flipped from integration to segregation. Really disorienting for us children of the 70s.”

And the reply he received from pilot Tim Hoffman was equally thoughtful, “They went from wanting equality to equity. For equal outcomes you have to discriminate.”
