Reacting to an article in The Atlantic, a “fact-based” Meet the Press panelist, without evidence, claims that ex-President Donald Trump and his supporters are plotting a coup — or Insurrection 2.0 — in 2024, an allegation which he insists is not at all hyperbolic.

According to journalist John Heilemann, who ironically is the executive editor of a website called The Recount, asserted that this potential conspiracy is “fact” on the NBC program Sunday morning.

“There’s this research that shows that something like at least eight percent and it maybe as many as 12% of the American people now say that Joe Biden was illegitimate and that violence is an appropriate tool to removing him and restoring Donald Trump,” he declared.

“That’s a number between 20 and 30 million people. That’s a mass movement in America in favor of political violence, which is a new thing. We’ve had violence in America before…but this is 30 million people right now who are ready to take up arms. You put that together with what the president, the former president I should say, and his allies are doing in the political realm, statehouses, state legislature, and the party apparatus, to be able to engineer a situation where they are in a stronger position to pull off a coup in 2024 than they were in 2020; that’s not hyperbolic at all. Those are all facts.”

Heilemann was one of many journalist who pushed the Russia collusion hoax and at one point wondered if U.S. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) could possibly be “compromised” by the Kremlin.

In the context that the January 6 anniversary is just around the corner, MTP host Chuck Todd, whose show must be desperate for content, teed up the feedback-loop segment by referencing The Atlantic article that is headlined “Trump’s Next Coup Has Already Begun.”

Todd read one paragraph from the essay which claims that “Trump and his party have convinced a dauntingly large number of Americans that the essential workings of democracy are corrupt, that made-up claims of fraud are true, that only cheating can thwart their victory at the polls, that tyranny has usurped their government, and that violence is a legitimate response.”

The panel apparently did not address the riots that swept America in the summer of 2020 which some consider was tantamount to an insurrection as well.

Parenthetically, Donald Trump insisted that the real “insurrection” occurred on Election Day, November 3, owing to what he considers a stolen election amidst a flurry of mail-in ballots rather than the chaos at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

Another MTP panelist who was identified as a “Republic strategist” lamented how Trump’s endorsement of candidates in elections around the country is very influential.

“If we have people all across the country who are put in a position where they will not confirm or certify an election result, that’s the nightmare scenario that I’m worried about. It’s very clear that’s what they’re trying to do all across the country. And then you take it a step further, the real nightmare scenario is a GOP Congress in the House that won’t certify a democratic election down the road.”

The main takeaways seem to be that liberals are very concerned that MAGA-style, pro-voting-integrity Republicans, rather than RINOS, will win a majority in Congress in 2022 at the ballot box, i.e., in what might be perhaps described as a completely peaceful constitutional protest, and that Trump will gain a second presidential term two years later.

The left also seems to be test-marketing a coordinated narrative about the GOP installing Trump as president no matter what and in the process casting doubt on the 2022 results as well.

“This feels as if we’re entering a place that is gonna get darker and darker if the election is less than one percent on any level,” Todd lamented.

The MTP discussion is yet another example of how the left in America, including the Beltway establishment, has reached peak projection.

That is, conspiracy mongers condemn conspiracy theories, democracy underminers pretend to protect democracy, authoritarians lament authoritarianism, misinformers complain about misinformation, censors masquerade as free-speech advocates, includes engage in exclusion, political cultists accuse others of cult membership, bullies bemoan bullying, and the list goes on.

Many Twitter users have more or less reached the same conclusion. Here is just a selection of the outpouring:
