A statement from Black Lives Matter on the ongoing trial of Jussie Smollett denounced the nation’s legal system and “corrupt and violent” police departments.
Defense attorneys and federal prosecutors wrapped up their closing arguments Wednesday in the trial over the actor allegedly staging a fake hate crime in Chicago in January 2019 and then falsely reporting it to police.
And while things did not appear to be going very well for Smollett in the courtroom, Black Lives Matter issued a statement declaring that “we can never believe police…over Jussie Smollett, a Black man.”
“In an abolitionist society, this trial would not be taking place, and our communities would not have to fight and suffer to prove our worth. Instead, we find ourselves, once again, being forced to put our lives and our value in the hands of judges and juries operating in a system that is designed to oppress us, while continuing to face a corrupt and violent police department, which has proven time and again to have no respect for our lives,” Dr. Melina Abdullah, Director of BLM Grassroots and Co-Founder of BLM Los Angeles, said in the statement released Tuesday.
National BLM organization statement on Smollett: “In our commitment to [police] abolition, we can never believe police…over Jussie Smollett, a Black man who has been courageously present, visible, and vocal in the struggle for Black freedom.” https://t.co/mSXpu9EyN3

“In our commitment to abolition, we can never believe police, especially the Chicago Police Department (CPD) over Jussie Smollett, a Black man who has been courageously present, visible, and vocal in the struggle for Black freedom,” Abdullah continued, adding that CPD “is notorious for its long and deep history of corruption, racism, and brutality.”
Further attacking law enforcement, she doubled down on her disdain for Chicago police, in particular, saying they “consistently demonstrate that they are among the worst of the worst. Police lie and Chicago police lie especially.”
While the strong sentiment sparked immediate social media reaction, many Twitter users were not impressed with BLM’s defense of Smollett.
So does this mean that in every single situation in which there is a dispute believe the police and a Black individual, BLM will reflexively refuse to consider whether the police’s account is valid?

This BLM statement on Jussie Smollet is just straight-up nonsense, my god https://t.co/vTgGhxMiCx

The BLM organization is a violent Marxist group that has scammed thousands while their organizers profited.

BLM supporting Jussie Smollett is the antithesis of the MLK movement. Judging one by the color of skin and not by the content of one’s character.
Another Affirmative Action example why the Democrat Party thinks we {blacks} are stupid🤦🏽♀️

Still not sure why this guy matters more than the black Americans actually being murdered in Chicago on the regular.
