Daunte Wright was killed when former police officer Kim Potter shot the troubled young man last spring and now several of Wright’s victims are speaking out to Fox News as the former officer’s manslaughter trial began Wednesday.

Wright’s shooting death when Potter mistook her gun for a Taser spurred protests and rallies in dozens of cities. In Minneapolis, just across the street from where George Floyd died after police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck in 2020, stands a marquee reading “Justice for Daunte Wright!” In nearby Brooklyn Center, “Daunte Wright” is written boldly across a barrier protecting the suburb’s fortified police station.

Wright’s family is being represented by prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump whose  website notes that Wright’s son will now grow up without a father figure and states prominently that “Duante Wright’s killing was NO mistake,” adding: “This shooting CANNOT be justified.”

However, not everyone is so determined to remember the slain young man as an upright, wronged individual. Numerous people allegedly have had their lives destroyed because of Wright’s penchant for gun violence. In unrelated and unscripted interviews, two women, both targets of Wright’s brutality, told Fox News Digital that “Karma’s a b—-.”

Both women contend that Wright contributed at least partially to his own death when he attempted to flee the April 12 traffic stop and his attempted arrest, although each woman acknowledges it would have been far better if the young man was still alive to answer for his actions in court.

Wright lived a short but hard life; he was reportedly often armed and dangerous. One casualty of his cruelty, Caleb Livingston, saw his life changed forever in 2019 when Wright allegedly shot him in the head at a Minneapolis gas station. The 16-year-old wasn’t expected to survive the surgery, according to his mother. Although he did pull through, he cannot walk or talk and must have 24-hour care.

“I pray for everybody involved because there’s a loss of life,” Livingston’s mother, Jennifer LeMay, told Fox News Digital Monday. “I know what [Wright’s] parents are going through because I almost lost my son…Now, who [Wright] was before he was killed, it is what it is.”

And in December 2019, Wright was accused of pulling a handgun on a young woman, choking her twice, and attempting to rob her in her own apartment.

“That person was evil, and he didn’t care about me in that moment,” the young woman told Fox News Digital on Monday. Video found on Wright’s phone reportedly shows him playing with a handgun in the victim’s bathroom moments before the attempted theft.

“It’s ironic that he died the way he could’ve killed me – having a gun pointed toward him, whether it was accidental or not accidental,” she told Fox News. “It just it made me start to think, how many more people could he have almost killed?”

Three posthumous lawsuits were filed against Wright’s estate and his family and attorneys have labeled the accusations against him as “character assassination.”
