LeBron James raised eyebrows with a tweet suggesting that something “fishy” is going on as the Los Angeles Lakers star sits out upcoming games due to the NBA’s COVID-19 health protocols.
The fully vaccinated NBA player has been sidelined due to COVID-19 test results though the team has not revealed that James has a positive diagnosis. The 36-year-old missed Tuesday night’s game against the Sacramento Kings while following the NBA mandate of a minimum of 10 days of isolation away from his team following several tests for the virus.
James tweeted a message Wednesday that seemed to raise even more questions and set off a wave of speculation about what he could mean.
“Something is REAL (fish emoji) going on,” he tweeted.

Though there was, as yet, still no clarification about the tweet, many social media users brought up James’ past vaccine hesitation.
“I know that I was very skeptical about it all,” James said in late September after getting the shot. “But after doing my research and things of that nature, I felt like it was best suited, not only for me but for my family and my friends. And that’s why I decided to do it.”
“LeBron coming out as a covid vaccine skeptic and he and I becoming buddies because of this is the plot twist the Internet needs,” sports journalist and radio host Clay Travis responded to James’ tweet.

“He said he’s good,” James’ teammate Anthony Davis told reporters, according to the Los Angeles Times. “I think he’s asymptomatic, which is a good sign, but we want to make sure that he gets back. Health is most important. This is bigger than basketball. He has a family. We want to make sure that he’s good no matter what.”
Social media users continued to wonder about what James could have thought is so fishy:
I don’t understand his tweet, at all. Can someone make sense of it for me?
