Against the backdrop of the ongoing supply chain crisis, a Biden administration’s purported plan to impose another COVID-19 vaccine mandate is prompting derision on social media, especially as another crisis (among many), the illegal immigration surge, also remains unresolved.
Effective January 22, 2022, President Biden “will require essential, nonresident travelers crossing U.S. land borders, such as truck drivers, government and emergency response officials, to be fully vaccinated,” according to what an unidentified senior administration official told the Associated Press. “The rules pertain to non-U.S. nationals.”
As a presidential candidate, Joe Biden said that he would not impose a vaccine mandate. He is already attempting to impose it, however, on all employees of large companies via an Occupational Health and Safety Administration rule (which is currently subject to a legal challenge in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit) in addition to what has already been required of federal employees.
Various state-level vax mandates are also being implemented.
In the end, the U.S. Supreme Court may have the final say. Based on some preliminary rulings, however, there does not appear to be five votes on the high court to block mandatory vaccinations, although time will tell.

A spokeswoman for a trucking industry group told AP that this latest presidential edict exemplifies “how unnecessary government mandates can force experienced owner-operators and independent truckers out of business. These requirements are another example of how impractical regulations will send safe drivers off the road.”
As of January 15, 2022, Canada under far-left Prime Minister Justin Trudeau similarly “will require truck drivers — both Americans and Canadians — to be double vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus” when entering that country, Heavy Duty Trucking reported.
The Canadian Trucking Alliance “has warned a hasty implementation could spell even more trouble for the North American supply chain that is already facing challenges associated with the driver shortage,” and that “it conservatively estimates that 10-20% of Canadian truck drivers crossing the border (12,000-22,000), and 40% of U.S. truck drivers (16,000) travelling into Canada will exit the cross-border business if the vaccine requirement goes into effect as scheduled.”

As many on social media observed, this is the same catch-and-release administration that has allowed a massive number of illegal migrants to enter the country, reportedly regardless of their health or testing status.
In September, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas even admitted that about 20 percent of the illegal aliens arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border had an illness of some kind.
In the meantime, the U.S. transportation sector is already trying to address a shortage of long-haul truck drivers, which unfortunately has been politicized by the left.

Separately, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevented has acknowledged that fully vaccinated persons can still catch and spread COVID. Authorities are now encouraging a third, so-called booster, shot.
As alluded to above, Twitter is scoffing at the latest seemingly inconsistent initiative from Team Biden, with several commentators also alluding to open-borders liberals’ talking-point outrage about Kyle Rittenhouse traveling a relatively few miles from Antioch, Illinois, to Kenosha, Wisconsin in August 2020.

How about the illegal immigrants? Do they have to be vaccinated before crossing?

What is a U.S. land border? So like state borders?

So if they drive the truck between the ports of entry over the areas where Biden removed the wall – they are good to go? https://t.co/UEjLwwf3Og

Illegal immigrants, on the other hand, will be placed into American society unvaccinated.

Is this a joke?
We are dealing with unprecedented supply chain crisis, partially driven by a labor shortage. Restricting the pool of possible drivers will only make that problem worse. https://t.co/3tFS56h93k

This is not what you do during a supply chain crisis, unless you’re trying to make it worse. https://t.co/bXvrDSpmor

Sure let’s accelerate the supply chain issues. https://t.co/SDeLbujgtm

I book cross border trucks for my job. The market is already extremely tight and difficult to navigate. I’d like to see the admin’s analysis of what this rule will do to cross border supply chains. I suspect they didn’t look too closely.
