‘Day in, day out’: Border Patrol union leader says ‘actual’ Covid-positive migrants being released into US

The U.S. Border Patrol is reportedly dealing with two simultaneous surges in the Rio Grande Valley: illegal immigration and COVID-19.

In that context, Border Patrol union officials are warning that the Biden administration is allegedly releasing illegal aliens into the country on a routine basis who have the coronavirus or haven’t been tested for the infection.

Chris Cabrera, a vice president of the National Border Patrol Council, told Fox News Live on Saturday that “Not everyone we encounter we test, only those that exhibit some type of symptoms, and not everybody has symptoms that has it. And we’re releasing people out of the door, day in and day out, with actual positive tests for COVID, and more just keep popping up.”

Off-camera, Cabrera added, “We have a lot of agents quarantined right now, which adds to our problem, on top of agents who are sick with COVID, so we’re concerned about catching it ourselves, we’re concerned about our families and coworkers, and it just seems everyone’s turning a blind eye to it when we have a real situation down here.”

Responding to anchor Griff Jenkins who reported that there are nearly 10,000 deportable illegal aliens in custody in RGV, National Border Patrol Council VP Art Del Ceuto also underscored the health risk during the Fox News Live segment, which is embedded below in two parts.

Watch and draw your own conclusions:

“Well, obviously when you have so many of these individuals in one facility, you have agents that are there, they’re getting exposed, and as you heard earlier, we don’t know who has COVID and who doesn’t have COVID. If they don’t show any symptoms, there’s really nothing to test, and then these individuals are getting released in the rest of the communities,” Del Ceuto said.

“And, when I hear people say, you know, they’re being told stay in their home, don’t go out, don’t do this, well, you know, they should have listened not to come to a country illegally as well,” he added.

Approximately 3,000 migrants are reportedly detained every day at the RGV sector (not including, obviously, those who escaped detection).

Agents have been pulled off their regular duty of securing the border to process these individuals, most of whom are ultimately released. COVID cases reportedly have increased 900 percent among detainees in that sector alone.

Illegal aliens began pouring into the country, thereby creating a law enforcement, humanitarian, and public health crisis, once the Biden team took office and halted border wall construction, ended the Remain in Mexico policy for asylum seekers, and brought back catch and release, among other decisions. All of this reversed former President Trump’s effective border-enforcement and security measures.

This is occurring even as the open-borders Biden administration is sounding the alarm over the Delta variant while downplaying infections among those crossing the border illegally.

According to Del Ceuto, the Biden administration is essentially ignoring the border crisis, and in the last six months, have undone all the border security enforcement security measures that were implemented in the last 40 years.

“They are not paying attention to what’s happening in the southern border. They came down here; they checked that specific box, and as far as they’re concerned, they saw, they came, they went, and no one is really paying attention within this administration,” he said.

“Everything that is happening, and it’s a domino effect when it comes to agents getting pulled by the field, when it comes to the processing centers being overcapacity, and at the same time the drug smugglers taking advantage of that, all of that falls under the current administration and their lack of enforcement and their lack of caring for what’s happening to our country,” Del Ceuto continued.

“Border Patrol has apprehended people from over 150 different countries. We don’t know their intentions. Their intentions and the actual number of those that have come in and have not been apprehended is truly unknown. It’s probably greater than what it is that they report, and if breaking records is what this administration is wanting to do, they’ve done so in a very negative way that’s going to harm our country. Not just now, but in future generations,” he insisted. “It’s gonna be horrific.”

In the meantime, Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott has signed an executive order to prevent the ground transportation of illegal migrants in federal custody who could spread COVID-19, an action which has prompted a lawsuit from the U.S. Justice Department.
