Fox News’ Jesse Watters reflected on the ‘not guilty’ verdicts in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial during his Saturday evening program by suggesting that the jury reached its conclusions despite the mainstream media’s best attempts to taint the outcome against him.
As his show opened, Watters played a short clip of the verdicts being read and Rittenhouse’s emotional reaction to them before launching into a critique of the media for variously portraying the teen as a “murderer,” a “white supremacist, a “white nationalist,” and a “racist,” among other falsehoods.
“Justice was served. Our system works. This was a clear-cut case of self-defense,” Watters noted after the clip, adding that jurors were under “intense pressure by protesters and the media to deliver a guilty verdict.”
He went on to say that “activists in the press” were stalking and attempting to photograph jurors, likely with the intent of ‘doxing’ them as a means of exerting even more pressure to find Rittenhouse guilty.
“But they were able to see past the corruption and intimidation,” said the host before assailing the prosecutors in the case for being “reckless” in overcharging Rittenhouse “just to feed the mob the body it wanted.”
He then played a clip of Mark Richards, one of Rittenhouse’s defense attorneys, who told reporters that prosecutors are supposed to “seek the truth” but that their case instead “became all about winning.”
Watters reasoned that “media lies…triggered the riots” in Kenosha in the first place following accusatory reports that cited Kenosha police for shooting Jacob Blake, an unarmed black man who was, in fact, reaching for a knife in his vehicle — an incident that followed an already volatile situation in the country amid ongoing riots that resulted from the killing of George Floyd by police just a few months earlier in Minneapolis.
“Remember, this is the same media who wants you to believe they were ‘mostly peaceful protests’ going on as the fire was blazing behind them,” said the Fox News host. “Did they stop? No. The press polluted the jury pool, slandered the defendant, and then attacked the judge.”
“Make no mistake: This verdict represented a massive loss for the corporate media,” he added. “Their power is slowly slipping away. The racial vigilante storylines — they sold all those folded. And did they learn their lesson? After the verdict, politicians fanned the race flames.”
Watters went on to note that several politicians made outrageous and false accusations following the verdict that were emblematic of those made by Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.), who declared the decision a result of “white supremacy in action.”
“This case has nothing to do with race, it was four white men,” Watters noted, adding that now “the media will have to answer for what they did.”
“The media and those who ignore the truth will have to pay for their destructive agenda most likely from their pockets when Rittenhouse sues them,” he said, going on to point out that even President Joe Biden previously referred to the teen as a “white supremacist.”
The verdict ultimately proved that “the media lost, corrupt prosecutors lost, defund the police lost, and self-defense won,” Watters declared.
