Democrat Rep. Cori Bush has doubled down on a dubious claim that has contributed to the left’s stoking of racial tensions as the Kyle Rittenhouse trial winds down amidst concerns of renewed rioting and violence if jurors arrive at the “wrong” verdict.

On Monday, the Black Lives Matter activist turned congresswoman tweeted that she was fired on at a protest during the 2014 unrest following the police shooting of Michael Brown, the hulking 18-year-old who was killed when he attempted to wrest the gun away from a local law enforcement officer.

Bush, who recently announced that she is running for reelection, poured gasoline on the fire when she took to Twitter to suggest that an acquittal of Rittenhouse would give a pass to “white supremacists,” an oft-invoked pejorative that has become a catch-all term for opponents of the extreme left’s anti-American, anti-police agenda as well as critics of the Democrat Party.

According to the lawmaker, “When we marched in Ferguson, white supremacists would hide behind a hill near where Michael Brown Jr. was murdered and shoot at us,” she tweeted. “They never faced consequences.”

“If Kyle Rittenhouse gets acquitted, it tells them that even 7 years later they still can get away with it,” Bush claimed.

It quickly emerged that there was no actual proof of her sensational claims and, had such a thing happened when Barack Obama was in the White House and his “wingman” Eric Holder was running the Justice Department, there would have certainly been a federal response as well as highly publicized arrests of the alleged shooters.

Undeterred by such inconveniences as reality, Bush’s campaign insists that “white supremacists” were indeed taking potshots at protesters and her campaign issued a statement rejecting suggestions that she made the whole thing up.

“While on the frontlines of the Ferguson Uprising, Congresswoman Bush and other activists were shot at by white supremacist vigilantes. The question we need to ask is why white supremacists feel empowered to open-carry rifles, incite violence, and put Black lives at risk across our country,” said a spokesperson in a statement, according to the Associated Press.

AP also reported that “Bush’s campaign also provided a link to an activist’s Facebook posting in January 2015. He wrote that after a march that ended near where Brown was killed, ‘someone tried to take us (the movement) out. Kill us. Stop us.’ The tweet said more than 20 shots were fired, smashing the back window of a car and grazing a female protester.”

The news organization also added that “A local news report at the time said police investigated but found nothing. It wasn’t immediately clear if any arrests were ever made.”

Still, there has been little to back up Bush’s story other than accounts from fellow ideological travelers on Twitter including Trans Black Lives Matter activist Ohun Ashe, whose Twitter bio states that she is a “Level Black Identity Extremist” and who tweeted: “This is FACTS! I vividly remember hiding under porches in Canfield as shots were fired at us. No one came to help us. We would come from under porches using cars as shields in between gun shots to make it out.”

However, Ferguson Police Chief Frank McCall Jr. had no knowledge of the alleged shootings that Bush claims that she was targeted by. “Not that I’m aware of,” he told the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Bush’s wild tale continues to draw the skepticism of many on Twitter.

There will likely never be any real effort by an intensely partisan activist media that has already convicted Rittenhouse to get at the truth of what really happened in Ferguson and, once again, it’s very clear that when it comes to Democrats, there is an entirely different standard applied to those who play fast and loose with reality.
